when all the kittens are running around and playing granet will stop and pant like a doggie
neo does this but he is over weight and when starts panting we stop playing. Has anyone heard of kittens panting?? He and the other monsters go to the vet on thursday so I will make sure to ask then. Also his little tounge is bright red. He is the unfriendly on so it is hard to spend time with him. But he runs and plays and doesn't seem to be in any pain?? He tested neg for felv and fiv.

When Echo and Bud were just little babies they would run around so much and get SO excited, they'd pant for a minute. It was like they were so exhausted from playing so hard, they needed a breather.
I wouldn't think it'd be a problem unless it lasts for a long time. Is it just 30 sec's to a minute? That's about how long my kids did it.

By any means, I'm not a vet or anything...I'm just going by what I've experienced.

It could be either Asthma, or a possible heart problem. When he gets to the vet, they should be able to give you a definate diagnosis. Most kittens don't pant unless stressed, or one of the above problems.

yep he is doing everything fine. He just pants for a couple seconds. under a half a minute. Just makes me nervous because no one else is doing it. I'm going to check out that site now.

I ran Zoey around the house like mad with the laser light once.. she stopped and was panting for a couple seconds
It scared me so I immediately stopped the playing lol. I havent seen her pant since. I think she just got too excited that one day.

neo pants when he plays with the lazer

Pan does that too with the feather-and-jingle bell-on-a-stick toy. She turns into a wildcat when it comes out, and will play way beyond her limits. Afterwards, she sits and pants for a minute or so.

*giggling softly* all of my kitens do that. They run like their tails are on fire for almost 30 min and then they just sit there for almost a full minute panting. Then they strundle over ((my word for that gagly kitten walk that's so damn cute!
)) to the water dish to drink. Then like 5 min after that the start running again! It's the most comical thing I have ever seen!

When Spike was a baby (under a year), he would pant if we played hard. Each time I took him into the vet, I asked them about it, and they listened to his heart and lungs, and said everything sounded good. So, I pretty much would play with him, and as soon as I saw panting, we stopped and let him rest.

I noticed once he passed kittenhood, he didn't pant while playing. And he hasn't slowed down, so I guess he just outgrew it.

Our little guy Magnus pants on really hot days...he's got a pug face like a persian so suffers a bit on the hotter days. They say pugged face doggies and kitties have a harder time during the hot days jut breathing...so you if that's the case you might need to try to cool him down a bit. Magnus gets out of breath when he plays a lot...usually that happens when he rough houses with the visiting kitties.

Poor Neo...
that is what i said
he has only gained a pound in two years so that is not so bad! The vet tech said he has a very large frame and maybe just a pound or two would do him good, but the vet said he would be best around 15 pounds and he is 19 now.
