I hope everyone is doing good.
I need some cat behavior advice and I knew this was the best place to get it.

My husband just brought home a brand new and very nice reclining chair. We don't want Rosco and Woody on it but unfortunately they don't feel the same. I've already had to chase them off like eight times lol.

I do know one way to deter a cat from doing something you don't want is to say NO and make a loud noise (like clapping your hands loudly) This may eventually work with Woody because he is a scaredy cat anyway but I don't know if it will deter Rosco. I know any training will take some time and I also know that there is a good chance they will use the chair when no one is around.

Also, hubby and I don't mind if they lay on the couches or the bed. I'm guessing it may be harder to train a cat to stay off one specific piece of furniture.

Any further advice would be great.

That would be my advice. Thank goodness when we moved into a house we knew in advance we had to buy furniture that had a really tight weave on it. Microfiber WORKS!

But... if the chair isn't upholstered with microfiber... I think the best suggestion is the big throw blanket. I mean - our cats know they're not supposed to be on the counter. But walking into the kitchen, you often see a tail disappearing as a cat jumps down...

Maybe buy a cat tree and put it right next to the chair?

The only other thing I can think of is make the chair something they don't want to be on when no one's in it. Get the heavy duty wide aluminum foil and pull long strips of it over the chair. If you do this for a month or so, maybe the cats will get bored of the chair and leave it alone?

I suppose we can just put a blanket on it when it's not in use so if the cats do jump up there it won't get covered in hair. Thanks for the tips.
