George's Sawdust Fettish!

Anyone else have a problem with a long haired cat that loves sawdust??? George, my ragdoll, has this thing for sawdust. If there is sawdust within a hundred miles, GEORGE WILL FIND IT!! And this time of year, all the neighbors are cutting wood getting ready for the winter, so there is sawdust in abundance much to George's delight. He comes home absolutely covered in the stuff! Have to spend 10 minutes brushing him out before I can let him in the house. We live in the rural area of Alaska and he loves to go outside during the day when we are out, but he will always find sawdust, sometimes I have no idea where he finds it, but it never fails! UGH! Silly boy!~~~~~

I have one cat that loves to roll in it (Harley, short haired, thank god!) and another that thinks it's kitty litter (Little One) . DH usually cuts wood outside, but sometimes does it in the basement when it's really cold and that is where are problems are....poop in the basement is NOT a good thing (unless in the litter box, of course). Hmmmm...maybe we should start using sawdust as litter in the boxes? Hey, if it works, you could go into business!

Hey, just curious...how cold is it up in Alaska? Has it started snowing yet? I've always wanted to go up there. I hear it's beautiful..but I think I'll come in summer. I'm just a wuss when it comes to cold.

It's not snowing yet and it actually got up to 61 here today. We've had a couple of days in the 30's but hasn't consistently stayed there yet. We had a gorgeous summer though, so I'm hoping for a mild winter.

I know a number of cat owners who use sawdust in their cat's litter box. There is one person who keeps her +20 cats in an outdoor enclosure and sawdust covers the floor.
