It's not like she's hasn't been growing and thriving
She's sitting on my shoulder right now she's certainly not weak or anything.

Maybe she's just really small but I definitely weighed her properly, 200g.

I just wish I didn't have so many things going on right now!! The difference in size really wasn't noticable until a few days ago
.

Now I have to figure out what to do. This may mean pink has to go to the local cat rescue
.

I've got cat milk for her today, I will try to find KMR tonight, then it's a question of whether my sister can look after her for us this weekend.

Crap, crap, crap, crap, CRRRRAAAAAAPPPPP!!!!! (sorry)

Why would she have to go to a rescue? Hopefully everything will be ok and it wont be anything serious, sometimes even if it looks like they're getting decently fed from mom, they're really not, so bottle feeding her may help.

We have to go away this weekend & hubbys brother is dealthy allergic & hubby's mom is deathly afraid. She can't stay with either of my parents because they are too busy, so my sister will have to take her if she can.

We can't financially afford to give Pink the proper care if there is something medically wrong with her. Hopefully it's just that she hasn't been getting enough food from mom, that I can deal with.

What is Karo Syrup?

It's the only thing I don't have in my cupboard right now for KMR. Can I substitute corn syrup or something??

I gave her a tummy full of cat milk (I know not the best option but the only thing I have right now) and she's happily sleeping in my shirt.

Now to find Tasha...

Why rescue? For resources? Or do you have a vet you work with who could check her out for you?

I can't take her with me this weekend, she's going to need care. If I can't find someone in my family...

If it's JUST that she hasn't been getting enough food then I can deal with that. I don't know why Mango would be thriving where she wasn't.

I'd talk to the vet and see if they can work something out with you, payments or whatever the case may be.

I promise I will try EVERYTHING before we send her to the rescue. However (I think it's called "cat cottage" or something silly) they are a cat-only rescue & I know they'd do a REALLY good job caring for her if it comes to that
. I just want to get moving on this before she gets any worse. I have a feeling Hubby's mom will catch on if there is something tiny, fuzzy & mewing in my shirt all weekend whom I keep passing bits of turkey too
.

"really! I'm feeding the baby... I got a special umbilical extension installed... ..."

Although, like I said, she's very happy & spunky if not tiny. So perhaps there really is nothing wrong other then just not enough food.

Hi Nes,

I can see that this must be difficult for you but on the other hand you can't just do nothing and hope all will be well in the end. This kitten is severely under weight and doesn't seem to be gainig weight either- so something is clearly wrong and you should have a vet take a look at her and start additionally bottle feeding the kitten.

I agree with P&R, try to talk with your vet and see if you can work something out. Maybe you could leave the mother cat and her kittens with the vets while you are away?

regards,

Christine

do you know how much that would cost me?

I did think of it, but it's just not going to be possible.

I JUST talked to my sister, she's taking Pink for the weekend. We are going to have to take her away from mom, but at this point that seems like the best thing to do. I couldn't possibly ask my mom to take in all 3 cats as she has cats & dogs and MY cats have fleas. That wouldn't be fair.

Pink will go back with Peaches & Mango on Monday, but she'll be weaned from mom.

It's quite probably pink is not gaining weight because Peaches is only 5/6 months old now (her mom) and isn't producing enough milk. I should have kept more on top of this but things have been so crazy around here lately
.

I'm not saying I won't take her to the vet or at least talk to a vet about what is going on, I just have to talk to my husband first about what the best thing to do is. If she starts to put on weight with the supplement food then obviously that was the issue.

This day is getting easier & easier...
My gelatin is majorly expired, can I use jello?
Otherwise I'm just going to have to keep giving her the cat milk until I can go shopping this evening.

How has the mom been eating? If she's not getting enough nurishments than it could be contributing to the low milk production. Maybe try vitamins for mom and baby. Hopefully your sister will be able to care for her, but if her current cat has fleas than Pink will have to be secluded from them as fleas, on an already underweight/possibly unhealthy cat, can be VERY bad and possibly even kill her. I know you want to do what's best for her while, at the same time doing what's good for your family, so just call the vet, they shouldn't charge for a phone consult and if you explain your situation they might be able to advise you what'd be best, and least costly, for you to do for her.

It's Pink & Mango that have fleas. I bathe them everyday & just treated Peaches with another dose of flea meds
(what our vet suggested). Pink has actually had very few fleas on her, it's Mango that's had them badly. I moved their crate last week to a new area with NO carpet or other fabrics other then their blanket. I had hoped that would have worked but they still had fleas today.

It's not the fleas that are making pink sick, Mango has them too & worse. Pinks hair is allot longer though & takes me more time to find the fleas, I wish I could shave her

Peaches was very sick with diarrhoea a few weeks ago but she's all better now thanks to her pro-biotics. She eats voraciously.

What is the difference between the golden and the white?
I'll add that to the shopping list with the gelatin
maybe I'll just get hubby to pick up KMR on the way home from work, that seems simpler.

Thanks!!

Hi,

I think it would be a bad idea to separate the kitten from its mom unless there is absolutely no other way.

I agree, kittens go downhill so fast and the weight of this kitten shows something is wrong. Please don't waste time on home remedies and internet advice when this kitten needs a vet, it's part of raising kittens.

OKAY. I am also trying to figure out where she's going this weekend, get Tasha in and about a million different things, it's only been about 3 hours guys
.

Anyway, I just worked it out with my sister so Pink, Mango & Peaches are ALL going to her place for the weekend
. Apparently her roommate isn't REALLY allergic & is excited the kittens are coming
Some people!! *sigh*

As I mentioned she is still running around, playing with Mango and generally being a kitten. She's also well hydrated. I really appreciate everyone's concern. I assure you, if she shows ANY signs of being sick or unwell I will do something about getting her to the vet immediately.

For right this minute, she's okay!

Hi,

good that they will stay together this weekend
, will your sister be able to get to a vets if she goes down hill? And do you think she'll be able to bottle feed the kitten? Pink hasn't been eating solid food up to now, right?

Yes & Yes. I already discussed with her that it's going to be a bit of work taking care of pink, but my sister has a cold so she won't be going anywhere this weekend anyway - so she'll be staying in with the cats
. Actually she's REALLY excited to care for them, she hasn't had a cat since she move to university (again "allergic" roommate), she has 3 at home (IN Toronto still) but misses them terribly.

There are TONS of 24/7 vets in Toronto (where we are headed) it won't be a problem getting her to a vet. Hopefully I can sort something out so my vet will have a chance to see her before we go though :S.

I'm already packing up the things she's going to need :S.

Extra towels
Kitty litter/litter tray
Bowls
Food
Toys
Syringe
The KMR when I get it
