We have had Kiki for a little over a month now. She is getting brave, she comes downstairs and lays on the couch. The problem I have is Thor, my 9 month old Great Dane, really wants to play with her. He keeps sniffing her butt. Kiki isn't liking this at all. She growls, hisses, and swats him on the nose. I'm am always right there during their meetings, but I don't know how many nose swats Thor will tolerate. I can't tall you one way or another if he would bite her....I don't think so b/c his tails wags 90 miles an hour when he's sniffing her.

Is there anything I can do to help Kiki accept Thor? Or is it gonna be a love/hate relationship?

I think it's just going to take time.

You might want to invest in one of those big cages (black wire) and set it up in the den. Put Kiki in there with a nice covered area to hide/sleep in, a box with a hole cut out of it would work well, her litter box, and maybe a food and water dish. Then, they could get to know each other and become comfortable with each other, but they couldn't really attach each other. Of course, you would be there with them, too.

You could also get an old towel or blanket and have each one sleep on it for a few days. Then, put Thor's towel with Kiki and Kiki's towel with Thor. That would allow them to get used to each others' smell.

Allowing Kiki out with Thor outside or shut off in a room would help her become more comfortable in the house so she's not exposed to too much "newness" all at once.
