I noticed this in the past 3 days. Nothing else has changed about his behavior, maybe he's become a little more quiet than usual but I wouldn't say it's a significant change. Usually around the same time in the evening in the past 3 days, I notice him twitching and kinda convulsing while laying on his back. I say convulsing because it's almost a rhythmic contraction of all of his muscles and then back to relaxed in a few second intervals. He doesn't act like it bothers him at all and acts completely normal while he is twitching, if I talk to him he looks at me and as soon as I get a toy he comes running after it as if nothing is going on. As soon as he starts moving you can't see the twitch, it's only apparent when he is laying on his back with his paws in the air, and during that time you can see his paws going slightly back and forth and when I put my hand on his stomach I can feel muscles contracting and relaxing...Does anyone know what might be going on? I haven't seen anything wrong he still runs after the laser toy like crazy- and part of my effort to get him to lose some weight has been to play with the laser toy a lot. He runs after it for like an hour it's insane and never gets bored of it...So I'm hoping this behavior doesn't indicate any sort of illness...but I'll be watching very closely for any type of signs of illness. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..

Is this while he is napping/sleeping? If so, IMO I wouldn't worry about it... I do the same thing when I sleep
. Ever woke up thinking you were falling? With a big twitch? Yep, kitty version, minus the wake up part

Lol yea he does it when he is sleeping but sometimes immediately after he wakes up and is just stretching. This is the part that worries me..

Tales always does it when she's kipping and sometimes when she wakes up and streeeeeeeetches. People at shows used to think she was cold

That is what my friend said because it's getting chilly here in the past few days so she thought he was cold
Apparently with each new season during the first of his life, Jake does a new thing to scare me into thinking he is sick..

Most likely it's nothing. I tend to agree with the other posters here. But I do have two things to add, from experience.

1. Have you put any flea medication on him recently? I once had a cat that had seizures for almost a week after using a spot on flea treatment. Even after washing him twice, he was still having residual muscle twitches.

2. Ever gone for a long walk or bike ride, and when you come inside and sit down the back of your loegs feel all twitchy? You mentioned that you were trying to get him to be more active, so it could be that he's actually getting the same "muscle fatigue" twitches that we silly humans do. But I don't think it's anything to worry about.
