I have an infection in my breast (sill nursing Jaiden). I went to the Dr. yesterday and he told me that I might have to wean him. I was hoping to nurse him past his first birthday. On the other side of that nursing hurts so badly right now I don't even want to think about doing it

I am just sad I don't feel good, my entire body aches and I am running a fervor.

Sorry just wanted to vent a little.

Oh so sorry you are sick and depressed. I don't know about the weather there, but it is gloomy here in up state NY. That sure does not help! Will your little one take fluids on his own? How old is he? You always will find a sympathetic ear here. Take it easy and let the others wait on you and spoil you for a few days. Vibes for a quick recovery.

I feel bad for you!!! I don't think that helps, but I really really do!

How old is Jaiden?

Lucas didn't WANT to nurse past his first birthday so maybe Jaiden would wean by then anyway?

The best thing to do is hot-compresses, but I'm sure you already know that, & nursing to get the infection out.

You poor thing!!

Don't feel bad if you do have to stop feeding, he got something & that's whats important. I was watching TV yesterday and the pediatrician they had on said this:

"Did you want the 2009 Bejiing Olympics?"
"Well there were Olympians there from over 200 countries, and they didn't all eat the same thing when they were babies and they made it to the Olympics"
"I bet some of them were formula fed, I bet there are even noble peace prize winners that were formula fed"

I'm a big proponent of breast feeding, it's what I've done with my own kids, but sometime things just get in the way. It's life. Don't feel like you're letting Jaiden down, I'm sure you're a great mom

Yes he has me on an antibiotic and told me to take Tylenol for the pain. Tylenol is not helping one bit!

I was lucky and the worse I got was a little soar, but even that really hurts!!!!

I know it sucks & it's hard not feeling bad about it, but your hubby is right you gave him a whole 8 months of breast milk - that's great! I know Lucas was eating TONS of food by that age, and maybe only feeding 2 or 3 times a day anyway. (Then again he REALLY likes to eat
).

I'm sorry to hear you are sore. I was only able to breast feed for 6 weeks so you've done very well. Any length of time breast-feeding helps them get your antibodies into their little systems so it's all good. Take care of yourself, your little guy will be just fine.

The same thing happend to my mom when I was a baby. I remember her talking to someone who had the same problem & both of them saying how painful it was. I can't even imagine. I hope you feel better soon!

Before throwing in the towel, give La Leche League a call. They have toll free numbers and women on call day and night and will advise on the necessity of weaning or not (doctors often just "assume" it's easier.)

I know how devastating it is, as I nursed my daughter WAY past one, and don't regret one minute of it. I even nursed her through a surgery and recovery (mine) as I was very determined. La Leche League instructed me how to do it safely for all involved.

Good luck,

Cally

He is eating tons of food and is ready for table food. He is pretty chunky
I was really hopeing to nurse him through flu season but not sure if it will work at that way.

My pan was to nurse for two years, but my MIL is very rude when ever I bring that up. I don't really care what she has to say about it, but I am really discouraged at this point. It honestly feels like my barest is on fire and when he nurses it is even worse.

That is a great suggestion I totally forgot about La Leche League, thank you.

I miss baking squash all the time!!
I'm planting a bucket load next year for the new little one, should be coming in right about the time he's ready to gum some down!

Oh never tell the MIL about breast feeding plans, or potty training, or that you look the rail of her grand-babies crib because he wanted out... I learned my lesson!!

Could you try pumping and feeding? If you don't have a pump it's weird but pretty easy to express it yourself (especially if you're quite full) and you know the way to do it so it doesn't hurt so badly. Once you get going it's like milking a cow... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

I have never had much success with the pump honestly and i get really frustrated trying to do it myself. There just is not a way to make it not hurt. It has not exploded into full blown mastitis YET, but it is getting there.

The La Leche League is wonderful, but they are not her doctor. I would suggest that if you do get advice from them, to also discuss it with your doctor as well.
