Hello from a new (and unexpected) cat "mom"! Just wanted to drop a note to say thanks to all the regulars here, who have been invaluable to me over the past few weeks.
About 2 weeks ago, my mother and I were visiting a relative's house, and we heard a cry through the open window. Long story short, there was an abandoned kitten holed up in the house next door. The house in question has been condemned, but like a pair of loons, my mother and I charged in and got the little rascal out. She was filthy, skinny, and quite wild at first, but calmed down surprisingly quickly, and by the time we got her fed and cleaned up, we were totally in love. The little girl, who I have since named Sophie, was estimated at roughly 5 weeks old when we got her to the vet the following day.
I had originally planned to give the kitten to a friend who is a cat lover, but I quickly realized that I was not going to be able to give her up so easily, and so I've been a frequent lurker over the past few weeks, reading up on all there is to know on this "mysterious" animal. My family and I have always had dogs, never a cat...so this is totally unknown territory for me. She really has been a pleasure though...she is intelligent, inquisitive, entertaining, and very affectionate, and has fit into my life surprisingly easily.
Anyway, thank you again to all for all the great information, advice, and adorable anecdotes and stories...I certainly appreciate all the information! I've done a LOT of Net research on cats and kittens in the past few weeks, but I've found 90% of the information I needed right here, without even having to ask, and I am SO grateful!
And just because I can't resist showing off "the baby," here's Sophie!
