For those of you to young to know what it was really like to be a rape victim in the 1970's and the horrible emotional trauma of testifying about your rape, which was as bad if not worse than the rape itself AND to those of you who have forgotten,

I've been seeing reports lately that the woman is begging the justice system to just let this go away but they say they cannot.

In the U.S.? I don't know if they can once the state decides to go ahead and press charges. I thought I heard something to that effect a long time ago, but I'm no legal expert either.

I think that's true. Once the state actually has a case the charges can't be dropped even if the victim wants them to be. Once there is proof of a crime, then it has to be followed through. At least, that's how "Law and Order" explained it.
