Shaved tortie grows back strange

Hi there: I have a friend in Atlanta that shaves her tortie every summer. This year her hair is growing back a completely different color and texture. Is this unusual? This is a rescued animal, but she has had her about 3 years now and this has never happened before. All else is just fine....any ideas???

That happens to my tortie when she's shaved for labwork and such. Every time her hair grows back a different color/pattern. It's kinda fun!

I have a black cat that's growing fur back in very pale grey/white instead of the normal dull black of her undercoat. So your kitty's not the only cat that changes color when it shouldn't be.
