House lost it's value to me when they got rid of the main core characters and brought in a bunch of others. Seeing the original characters in recurring roles, just doesn't do it for me.

I tried giving it a chance after that and watched about 5 shows or so, but just couldn't get back into it. Since then I've tuned in on occasion, but I never tape it and I don't look for it on TV.

I figured that since I watched the ending of last season that I would tune in to see what happened. But it was dragging and redundant and when I looked at the clock not even 40 minutes had passed. I tuned out at that point.

So far as I'm concerned this show as "Jumped the shark!" and is long past over due for going off the air.

I missed all of last season and well I might just miss this one too. That was a real snoozer last night.

Same here, I hate to say it.

I actually really enjoyed the episode - best one I've seen in a long time. The connection with the German lady (Franka Potente who I love) was part of reinventing himself, and learning to be himself and open up to someone he cares about.

The scenes with "Freedom Master" were powerful - he broke the rules to cure someone, but he didn't do it - he just enabled him and almost killed him.

House tried and tried his usual manipulative tricks to get out of there, only they didn't work - he had to actually change and open up to become a better person.

I think this episode really sets up the rest of the season - he will be reevaluating all the relationships he has, and trying to remain a top diagnostician after losing what he perceives as his edge. I daresay he'll be a bit embarrassed at how he's treated people, and will be surprised at how others treat and react to him - this is the first time he'll be integrating with people with a clear head. I'm actually looking forward to this season, more than I have previous seasons - the old formula had gotten boring a long time ago.

Well, said, Sarah!

The whole idea of how he's going to deal with people without being drugged up sets up the whole coming season

I also think the relationship between House and his psychiatrist, the Andre Braugher character, was so important to last night's episode and to coming episodes. The other doc was a step ahead of him all the way.....none of his tricks worked. The scenes between him and the psychiatrist were so interesting and compelling. I barely took a breath.

I thought the writing of the episode was amazing.

I also thought the music and the cinematography was incredibly powerful as well. It was really well shot and thought out. The bit with the sister playing the cello had me all teary.

Yep.

We don't have TV channels, we have to wait for all our shows to become available on DVD, so we are still catching up from Season 5. We're on the 4th or 5th episode from SSN 5 and I am B-O-R-E-D and sick of House's jerkiness and I miss Cameron & Chase and I wanted Cuddy & House to get together and... uggghh.

I haven't been able to really STICK with any TV shows since they killed off all the GOOD characters on E.R. all those years ago, which ruined the show, IMO. Sad.

This is coming from someone who doesn't watch it regularly.

I've seen a couple episodes, partially, but ended up flicking it off cuz it didn't work for me.

This episode was ok, but I think that is because I don't know much about House's issues, but I can relate to being in a psych hospital. I'll watch the second episode next week, but I don't think this show is on my list of shows to watch.

Completely agree with you there! Although Hubby did notice how similar the hallways in the asylum were to the hospital. Bad scene desginers, bad!

The scene with the woman playing the chello was GORIGOUS!

I am a HUGE House fan, so naturally I was on pins and needles for the season premiere. After watching it, I'm a little torn though.

I thought it was a wonderfully moving episode that was very well written. If I had seen this episode alone, I would have loved it for what it was. But as it fits into the grand scheme of things, I'm a little dissapointed.

I love House's character because he is so blunt and well...since this is TCS let us say not a nice man,
. He's an incredibly complex character that I sympathize for and love for his maliciousness at the same time.

I just hope he isn't all bubbly and happy from now on basically. From the previews of the upcoming episode I think they'll balance his character nicely, but it still gets me a little worried. The reason I love this show so much is because of his flaws. So what happens now that he's starting to "heal"? I would like this to be a new chapter of the show, not an entirely different book, ya know?

The only think I'm concerned about is Forman seems to be taking over House' position; and while I liked him at first I don't like his character from about the 3rd season on. He's just too cold.

I agree. I dont want House to be sanitized, bleached of his personality, he is an ass, I want him to remain such! Warm fuzzy puppy House, no way!
PC police be damned, I want my House all messed up, angry, a vicodin popping briliant quite messed up person. Almost makes me long for the good old days of Tritter. (eek)
