hi all
i adopted a pregnant cat (that took refuge in my shed) who had 4 kittens that are now 4 weeks old all of them seem well but have a black dry gunk on their noses and eyes does anyone know what this could be ? im quite concerned being pregnant and having 2 small children as i cant afford really to take all 4 kittens and the cat to the vet and have read it could be feline aids!
thankyou very much for reading kim

I understand that it is very difficult sometimes to have to spend the money at the vets. Ask if you can bring in one kitten who has the problem. Maybe the vet can send enough meds home to treat them all. I don't think you can get around having the vet visit. The babies are still very vunerable at this age. A URI is nothing to fool with. I have not heard of these symptoms being indicative of feline aids. Good luck.

I haven't heard of that meaning FIV, either, but you could have the mother cat tested just in case. Don't bother testing the kittens because tests can come out with false negatives or false positives.

They need vet treatment, but just how bad are their noses stuffed up? Is everyone still eating ok? There are some things that, along with treatment, can help cats sick with URI. Use the search function to look for past threads with a lot of information concerning URIs.

Can you call a local rescue for help? You can explain to them that you took her in but can't afford vet care right now. If you offer to continue to foster them they may help you get the care you need. Good luck and keep us posted.

FWIW, it may be dirt if they were outside for long. How long have you had them inside? Try washing their faces and see what happens.
