Has anyone out there got a cat as excitable as my Harry? He is a really loving and friendly cat, but whenever someone strokes him, he immediately rolls over to have his tummy rubbed and then promptly bites and chews and licks them. It is not done maliciously, he purrs all the time and never puts his claws out. He just loves to wrestle. Unfortunately he does have very sharp teeth and these tend to break the skin when trying to prise him off the arm he is wrestling with. Is this behaviour unusual or does it mean he is dominant or something else?

The more you pull the harder your kitty will bite! Never play with your cat with your hands as it will lead to even more agression and he could harm a guest in your home opening you to a lawsuit.

The minute he grabs onto your hand or arm, go limp and do not react at all until he lets go. Have another toy he can attack like a stuffed animal, or feather wand. Use these to help him lose interest in you and gain interest in the toy.

Cat bites can cause nasty infections and if the cat is indoor/outdoor you can contract toxiplasmosis.

I absolutely agree with you. I expect it in kittens, but not in 6 year old cats.

Harry is one of those cats who gets overstimulated with to much petting. For those type of cats, you have to condition yourself to stop petting long before the aggression kicks in. These type of cats usually hate having their belly rubbed and like instead to be touched under their chin and places where they can see your hands at all times. If he grabs you, as Teresa says go limp, and blow one quick gentle puff of air in his face, he will release and you walk away quickly and leave him alone.

Hissy? When you use the term 'aggression', do you mean that Harry is being nasty? Just a stroke on his head starts him wrestling, but I'm sure he likes it. He would do some serious damage if he didn't, wouldn't he? It was because of this behaviour that his previous owner was scared of him. He really doesn't mean any harm by it, he just plays very rough. But I love lots.
