On Labor Day, I took my boy to the ER vet as he seemed to be having urinating issues - going to box, but little or nothing coming out. He wasn'block and the ER vet gave him two shots (painkiller and antibiotic) and a course of Batril and said to follow-up with my own vet. Once I got home, Dante was peeing like a trooper. My vet's office recommended a follow up checkup, which I did yesterday. Turns out Dante does have some struvite crystals, or undetermined origin (might be the result of a lowgrade infection, or something else), and we're going to go on Science Diet CD with another follow up in a month.

My vet was actually praising me for coming in for the follow up, doing the urinalysis (which was $32), etc. Heck, I was thrilled with them for getting me in on the weekend, and for spending so much time with me re what tests to do, food, etc. I guess I just want to say how important I think it is for all of us to find vets we trust, and not to discount the value of follow-up checks and lab work. I just keep thinking what if I had decided that since Dante was peeing, let's not bother with the vet unless/until something happened. Maybe we'd be fine, but in this case, at least we have a start on trying to get a handle on the crystals. And, yes, I'm going with the SD at least until we have his next check up and see if it's helped.

I also want to thank everyone who sent well wishes for my guy - I'm sure they've helped.

I don't think you could have felt ok putting a follow up off. It would have bothered you worrying - a lot of us would be too paranoid to put that off, too.

I hope the diet works are keeping the crystals controlled.
