Cat food companies tend to use grain to raise the protein level in dry cat food.

Because I cannot use an EVO type food, yet need a kibble food,
I am looking at two different formulas by two different companies and would like your feedback about the first five ingredients /protein sources in these foods.
Also, if you would share your thoughts about these formulas I would appreciate it.

One formula is 42% protein with a higher percentage of grains...
the other is 30% protein from a higher level of chicken.
Is grain protein equal in digestibility to meat?
Do you think that because the 30% protein food is higher in chicken, it is equal to a 42% food that is heavy in grain?
What do you think of these two dry formulas?

Nutro NATURAL CHOICEÂ[emoji]174[/emoji] Weight Management: Protein = 42%
Chicken Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Rice, Wheat Flour, Dried Plain Beet Pulp.

Wellness Healthy Weight: Protein = 30%
Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Rice, Ground Barley, Ground Rice.

I wish choosing the best diet for our sweeties was not so complicated.

I do feed wet....
I need to supplement with a kibble.
Thanks for your feed back.

chicken is roughly 91% of protein is digested

white rice or rice flour is up to 90% usually about 85% of protein is digested

wheat NOT whole and wheat floud is about 75% of protein is digested

barley , brown rice are about 60% of protein is digested

corn and grd corn is 50% of protein is digested

Millet is in the 90% range

corn gluten is 66-75%

so based on those two choice s I say it would likely be a draw... based on types of grain s both use and the fact that if the 30% was if fact more meat heavy it would not be 30%

That makes sense to me Jennifer.
Your clarity about complicated food formulas, gives me hope that we will find a good replacement food for Dexter's discontinued food.
We might as well go ahead and try one of the new Nutro formulas.
Now, I have to pick which one to try first.

Please life...
let one of these formulas agree with Dexter.

Thanks Jennifer.
