Her wallet was stolen friday last week. The thief calls her (I guess an emergency number was in one of the ids) saturday morning to tell her she could get her wallet at a certain location on sunday. My sil finds her wallet minus cash, but all the important things - credit cards, drivers license, etc. were untouched.
Do you think she needs to still report the loss of the vital documents (even though they were returned) to avoid the risk of identity theft?

Definitely cancel all credit cards and report the theft to all the credit bureaus. He could have copied all the information without keeping the cards.

She should absolutely cancel those credit cards. They've got the numbers, including the security code from the back of the cards, and could use them at any point.

I agree. Hope she has done so already. Thank you.

I would be very worried if I were her that person likely also has her home address (if her license is current with it). Who knows if the person is crazy enough to try robbing her home or might get p.o.ed if they try using a card number and can't...

Yikes! Never thought of that. And I heard she was glad they only took the cash.
