Morning All!!

Today's question is about pets:

What was your first pet and where did you get it from?

I remember how excited I was when I was finally allowed to have my first pet. My brother and sister's all had their own pets growing up. My brother had a black lab named Major, my oldest sister had two love birds, and my middle sister had a guinea pig called wiggles. When I was 6 my brother got permission from my parents to bring home a puppy from a litter that my aunts dog had had. It was a tiny terrier cross and he picked it up on my 6th birthday and brought it home inside his jacket. That was my Rusty and I had him until I was 22 when he passed away from old age.

I was born into several cats, in fact there is a great picture of me sitting on the couch at about 6 months amidst all the cats
. The best part being it wasn't staged, my parents walked in on me sitting there with all the cats (now why I was sitting on the couch with no parents in the room? ... )

So I guess the first pet we GOT was when I was 2 and we got Tess the golden retriever (followed by Molly a year later).

MY first pet was my kitty soul-mate Riki
, I got her from my great-aunt (who moved to a nursing home) when I was 13. I miss her every day!

My first pet was a gerbil or a hamster. I don't remember which one, since I had quite a few of them over my childhood.

My first pet was Bootsie, the runt of a litter of barn cats. We got him when I was about 6 months old. He grew to be 28 pounds, and lived to be 21 1/2 years old.

Here's a picture of him when he was about 20.

There's no place like home
The first family pet was a cat named Josephine. I was 4 and my brother brought her home one day from a friend who's cat had kittens. The first pet that I adopted as my specific pet was a finch. I had it for about a year when it got out of its cage one day and yup, the cat ate it. No birds for me ever since.

After that, I adopted my first cat Hippocrates when I got my first apartment at age 18.

I was born into a family with cats and a great dane. While I took care of them - making sure they were fed, washing out water dishes and refilling them, cleaning out the dog's doghouse (no one else could fit inside! - or wanted to
), scooped litter boxes, etc - I didn't get a cat that was mine, and only mine, until I was five.
I had asked for her as a birthday and easter gift - the two were only a few days apart that year. They refused. A family friend had seen me holding the kitten and knew how much I wanted her so I, and my parents, was surprised when the kitten was brought over to me. They couldn't refuse and look rude, so I got to keep her.
Unfortunately she was only about 6 weeks, so we had to get her some formula to go with her food. She would sleep with me every night and follow me around. And while we had two other cats at the time, she was MY cat.

My gosh! What a big kitty!
I'm surprised he lived so long being so big. Do you have a bit of a soft spot for tabby and white kitties?

I had 2 dogs and a cat growing up. My fave was our Border Collie mix girl named Tootsie. She was "my girl" and I always hung around the yard with her. I loved her to death and cried for weeks when she died at the age of 12 when I was 13 years old. We had gotten her from the neighbors', who's dog had a litter. We also had a Cocker Spaniel named Ricky, whom died at age 15 about 5 years ago. We got him from my grandpa, who bred Cocker Spaniels many years ago. Shelby was our farm cat tabby. She just showed up in our yard one day and we fed her, then eventually got really attached to her. She lived with us for nearly 18 years, I'd say. Sadly, she was hit by a car near my parents' house last year. Now my parents have two kittens, a brother and sister from the same litter, that they adopted from the shelter in January. I finally convinced them to adopt and they love them so much! They're my parents' children now that all their real kids have moved out. They named the kittens Marvin and Georgia and spoil them rotten. I also convinced them to keep them indoors.

I also was born into a house with a cat and dog (and they became my protectors). But when I was about 5 my paternal grandmother brought over a kitten she had found in the alley behind her house and gave it to me. Christened Tom Tinker, he became an especially respected family member the night he saved us when something cause smoke from our coal furnace to back into the house.

We have always had cats but I got one that was all my own in the 2nd grade. His name was Tarzan. He was about 14 at the time and this dog came into our yard and killed him. This was a couple of months after DH and I got married. He was such a cool cat. He got his name because he would run across the floor and take a flying leap on the curtains and swing.

I wanted a cate for quite awhile. I finally got my frist cat age 5. We went to my grandparents' farm and I picked out a kitten from one of their barn cats. She was a beautiful long haired calico named Yellow Face. I still miss her.

My first pet was a cat, I named him Buffy because he looked like a little white powder puff. It was my 14th birthday and my mom and dad had given me a coat with big pockets. My grandma's cat had a litter of six kittens, they were about eight weeks old. Buffy was climbing on the screen door at my grandma's back door. I picked him up and stuck him in my pocket and my mom and dad let me bring him home with me. He was my baby and my best friend. He passed away in 1997 when he was ten.
