I'm new to this forum, obviously. I joined to make a specific post for my mom, but I might stick around, I just adore felines.

I'm 21 [just turned on the 8th] and married. At the moment, I sort of halfway work at the video store my husband, mother in law and I started. Most of the time, I just stay home and do artwork, as I take commissions and have somewhat of a large backlog at the moment. :p
I also really enjoy reading and one of my favorite serieses is a YA series about feral cats [Warriors by Erin Hunter]! I also enjoy fantasy stories and some sci-fi [Harry Potter, Ender's Game] and Watership Down has been my favorite book since I was 11.

My husband and I have two cats [and a german shepherd who adores them]! One is around 3 years old and the other just turned 2. They look like nearly exact mirror images of each other, though they aren't related.

We got Reagan a few months after we started dating. After she got spayed, she gained a lot of weight, but kind of gradually. I didn't notice it happening until one day, I realized she was ENORMOUS [she is now a whopping 18 lbs
]. It's a huge problem for her so we've taken her to the vet and discussed a diet, but it's been a couple months and it doesn't seem to be working. I think she's lost a little weight, but not really noticeably. I think it's about time for another checkup.
I'm hoping to get a harness or something soon so I can take her for short walks in our fenced yard to exercise. She really loves looking out the windows and smelling the smells coming in when we open the door, so I think she'd really like it.
She's very special to me and has a hilarious personality [very talkative, but only when you talk to her or she wants something]. She sleeps at the foot of our bed every night and loves sitting atop the cat tree and surveying the land.

My little boy Edgar was kind of a coping mechanism for me after my puppy contracted Parvo and passed away [two years ago in the next couple weeks]. I saw him on a shelter site and he looked so much like Reagan, I felt like they were a set.
We went in to visit him, played with him alone in a little room. He was very active, but loved to just sit in my lap and get cuddles. He didn't stop purring the entire time, when I was next to his cage, when we were playing, cuddling. When he got put back in the cage, he gave me the saddest look and the tiniest meow, it just broke my heart.
When we told the woman there that we'd decided to adopt him, she let out a sigh of relief and informed us that he was scheduled to be euthanized that night if no one had adopted him because of how overcrowded their shelter was.
I've never regretted my "impulse" adoption, though some people told me that adopting out of grief was a bad thing. He sleeps with me every night, on my pillow and almost never stops purring.
I love him so much. And his meow hasn't really aged since we got him, he still has such a petite voice, especially next to Reagan's loud yowling.

And just for fun, our GSD is named Sam and is...almost 5 years old [we've had him for nearly 3]. He's pure black, I'd never seen anything like him before we found him. I'd seen white shepherds and the usual black and tan, but no black. Apparently the rescue owner we got him from had rescued him from a shelter that was calling him a black lab. :p He was very emaciated, wouldn't eat hardly at all. The rescue owner had him on 15 cups of food a day and now he's a really big sweetheart.
He's gentle as anything even though he's so big. At times, I think he thinks he's still a little puppy [like when he tries to be a lapdog in mimicry of my mother in law's Pomeranians]. He just loves the cats and lets Edgar lay across his paws or rub his body in greeting all over his face and chest. It still cracks me up to see. When we brought Edgar home from the shelter, Sam wasn't allowed in the same room because Edgar was SO terrified of him. Now they're best buddies.

Anyway, I tend to ramble when I talk about pets. I love animals and maybe one day when I'm much older, I hope to open a cat rescue. I'm just afraid I wouldn't be able to say goodbye when they got adopted out!

Nice to meet you all, at any rate.
I intend to browse the site and maybe I'll leave some comments here and there. If you read my whole post, you're a champ.

-Kayla

P.S. Just to show their twin-ship, here's a picture of Reagan [black nose] and Edgar [pink nose] enjoying their cat tree for the first time!

What beautiful cats!

Welcome to TCS.

If you haven't already, pop into the Health section of the forum and there are some really knowledgeable people there who might be able to make some good suggestions about helping your cat lose weight. It's really a problem, especially if you're free-feeding dry food.

Thank you!

I have looked around there a bit and I plan on reading a lot of the weight stuff. After we realized she was overweight, I started monitoring her food intake. Turns out, Edgar was only eating part of his food in the morning and then Reagan was eating her portion and half of his. From then on, we started feeding them seperately. :p

Oh and we don't free feed them at all. They get measured portions twice a day.

Beautiful cats! I've got two cats on a diet and it's hard work trying to get them to lose weight, I hope in a month we will have started to see a difference!
