This past March, we were down to only 1 pregnant female feral barn cat. I had 8 cats living with me, but I knew if she had her babies outside, I would never be able to catch them and they would all die on the road. So.....I used the have a heart and brought her in. If I could re home the babies, I would keep her. She tamed down almost immediately. Slick had 6 kittens on March 26. The 3 other male ferals disappeared, probably because no females were available. I found homes for 4 of the babies. Two people we knew took two each. That left the mom and 2 babes. So, now I have 11. However, we are set up here where my cats have their own two rooms. There is a screen door between us so, they are not cut off from us. I am always back there cleaning or playing with them. They have a nice outdoor run that overlooks a ravine. Tons of birds and chipmunks. But in the 30 years I have lived here, this is the first time there is not a feral cat. It feels kind of funny. I would go out and Hosta or Ranger would be on the barn roof sun bathing. Now nothing. Yes, it was difficult bringing 3 more in, but it sure beats years more of ferals and dead cats on the road. All my other guys are seniors so my brood will be dwindling down slowly. I miss them.
Awful quiet outside tho.....

Yeah we had a similar experience once we got all the ferals and outside cats fixed at my mom's farm. There was like 30 at some point and now they're down to 3, including one I relocated there a couple months ago.

It's so strange, I grew up there and there was just always cats every where. New ones showing up constantly. We stll get one or two showing up but nothing like before.
