Well.

I think I am going to splurge and get myself a tattoo for my birthday. Which was yesterday.

Already have two great tattoo parlors to choose from, that are completely sterile and professional, and it will literally cost me an arm and a leg. The one guy has a poster in his parlor that says "Cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap."

Anyhow. I am pretty certain I know what I want. It's going to be a text tattoo, for sure. It's just the text that I keep changing.

Originally I wanted, All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream, but then I really liked, Life is but a Dream, as well.

I definitely want the word DREAM somewhere in the quote.

As it stands so far, I am preferring the Edgar Allen Poe quote.

Also stuck on placement. I'd like to be able to see it, and would like it on my arms, but I'm fairly small and have tiny arms so I don't know it that would work out. I don't want it on my belly or lower back.

Ideas? Suggestions?

or around your ankle.

How's your pain tolerance?

And I think it is dependant on which text you choose. The shorter one would probally fit around your wrist, and could look very nice depending on font and size. The longer one, you may have to use too small of a font size to get it to fit around small wrists.

Just cuz I'm nosey, who are you thinking of getting to do it? (I ask because of being in the same area..... though my artist is local, not in London.... there's a few in London that I've seen some darn good work from)

I always say wait until you're positive that you know what and where you want it.
Also, just for text it shouldnt cost you more than one or two hundred dollars (although it has been several years since I got mine so prices could have gone up)
Good luck deciding!

I don't have that good of a pain tolerance.
It'll feel like a 4 hour tattoo for me, I'm sure.

I was thinking of going down the length of my inner arm. I am going to write it on myself later and see how it fits and if I like it.

My mum and best friend got their tattoos from Addictive Tattoo in downtown London by Galleria.. if you've ever seen it. It's hard to see unless you're looking for it because it's up above a porn store, so you see the porn store before the tattoo parlor.

The other is also in London, on Highbury and Huron. Underground Ink. He used to be in St Thomas. He's amazing. I'd really like to get it done by him. My best friend has known him since they were in highschool too, and knows how clean and kept up the shop is. His name is Neil.

The third that I am just considering does it out of his home here in St Thomas. I have a lot of friends that have gotten their tattoos by him.. but it just makes me unsure because I don't know what the conditions are that he is tattooing in. All my friends rave about his work and his prices, but I dunno.

I've seen some amazing work done by Addictive fo' sure.

Ironically I just saw the shop Underground Ink a couple weeks back.... haven't heard good or bad bout it.

Last one, ask him to see his health certificate. If he cannot provide it, then I would not go with him. Sure his prices will be cheaper due to no overhead costs of a shop....but at what potential price to you?

Good luck with whoever you choose....I hope it turns out wonderfully, and Happy Belated bday.

Yeah, both my mom and my friend love their tattoos by Addictive. And they are reasonably priced.

When I told my sister I was going to go get my tattoo done, she told to go to the same guy that I mentioned here in St Thomas, her best friend got hers by him. It covered her entire back and she only paid $80. But I would rather pay more and be disease free, than pay cheap and end up with god knows what.

I have a phobia of needles myself.

But I have gotten my ears pierced twice, my belly pierced and my nose too, so I think I can handle this too.

I just refuse to look at the needle at the time I will be getting it done. I look the other direction, haha.

ok, something is quite wrong. I'm bout 4hrs in on a full color back (that is just outlining, from bra band down...), and I get a discount because of a couple reasons, but the running total is nowhere near only $80. Heck, even my smallest tattoo done by Blue Dragon back in 96 was $50 (minimum charge)....That shocks and concerns me, and I'm glad you would rather invest in someone I trust 100% to be clean, inspected and do a great job.

Funny, I'm the opposite of you.... I'm one of those people that HAS to watch needles..... mind you, I don't find tattoos painful but I'd still rather watch (my artist and I have a running joke... he swears he will find somewhere that actually hurts me
I laugh and try to forget that my full leg includes the back of the knee) ..... Now dental needles on the other hand
scare me and they hurt like heck IMO.

anyways, sorry for digressing.

How'd your writting go?

OMG I just got my first tattoo. I got the tree of life 'lovers'. It's so beautiful. I got it right between my shoulder blades.

I thought long and hard for a long time before deciding what I wanted. Mine was my anniversary gift from my husband (10 years). I really love it. To me it represents not only everything that the tree of life represents, but having the lovers in it, it also represents adam and eve, and true love. We are all related in one way or another.

I think tats are great. I think text tats are cool too. I am curious (I didn't read the thread, I should have, but I was too excited to say something) is this your first tat? I only have one... so far.

I had tattoo regret right after I got mine. I didn't like having it on my skin. I don't see it everyday for where it is. I wanted so bad to wash it off when I did see it. After I got some good pics of it and got to really look at it, I realized how much I really love it. I don't regret it at all anymore, that lasted a week or so.

I hope you post a pic or two after you do get it, I would love to see

be safe.

btw happy late bday!!!

I am the proud owner of a tattoo that I didn't think all the way through.

So all I have to really offer is make sure that you really want it. And make sure you let it heal all the way!! Don't pick at it! D: Mine is in an unfortunate location that my fiance slapped (playfully of course) when I first got it done and it broke open and bled all over and now, not only am I stuck with a tattoo that I didn't want, but one that isn't even complete anymore! LOL

Anyways, I still want another one, even though the one I have only cost 50$ and took 20 minutes to complete and I about passed out halfway through. I'm such a wuss.

This time I'm going to put some serious thought into what I want, and maybe incorporate another tattoo over my existing one to turn it into something that I want.

And getting a tattoo isn't nearly as painful as some people make it out to be. The people who believe it's the most painful are usually those who've never had a tattoo done. It's more like a cat scratching you and a slight burning feeling in the area. And I'm sure we all know how to deal with minor cat scratches.

Guess it all depends on the area

Crap, wish I could find that chart..... hmmmm. I'll look for it.

FOUND it...

Check that link out
I find it to be fairly accurate in terms of painful areas on your body.... Keep in mind though, it does vary from person to person, pain tolerance, body type, etc. etc.

One thing to keep in mind is that while it looks good now, how many OLD men or women have you seen that have tattoos and what they end up looking like when you are old and have wrinkles??????

Will you be able to still read it then????
