I have noticed that when Kiki breathes in she squeaks. Is this normal or could it be due to her URI? When I take her to the SPCA vet I don't actually get to see the vet and I can't get her into the base clinic until next month. I didn't know they were in the process of moving the base vet and would be closed this month.

Should I worry...or is it just one of those quirks?

Maybe I should have named her Squeakers

Lots of cats can't meow properly and squeak instead.

Pick her up and press your ear to her side, what do her lungs sound like?
A URI is something the shelter workers should be able to help you identify.

Does it sound like she's having a hard time breathing?
Or like she's just a little stuffed up?

Saline is great for helping to clear kitty noses when they are stuffy.

When I listen to her side I hear regular purring...no squeaks. The squeaking is actually coming from her nose I think.

Ooh our cat does something similar. She has ever since she was a kitten. It's kind of like snoring, only she does it while asleep or awake. It doesn't happen all the time.

We asked the vet about it last time we were there and she said it might be an oddly formed pallette [something like that?] and that it was probably nothing to worry about.

Of course, I have no idea if this is the same thing as yours has! I'm just sharing what I know.

Over the river and through the woods...
Has she been doing this all along or just started? If it doesn't sound like she's congested or snotty then maybe you just have a squeaker. If she does sound a little bit snotty, I've given kittens tiny doses of baby cold medicine (forget the brand, but it is the main brand you always see). Check with your vet first of course, but my vet actually recommended it when one of our kittens started getting snotted up on a Friday and they wouldn't be open to see her until Monday. It seemed to make her feel better, and it turned out she just had an upper respitory infection and a head cold.
