my cat isnt eating or drinking much. im taking her to the vet soon and my mom is paying the bill. i hope its nothing serious but if it is i may have her put down. shes also wheezing alot. shes almost 14 and my mom says it could be because of her age
I hope she is ok. It may just be an upper respiratory infection, (URI). If a cat cannot smell, it will not eat or drink.
You may be able to provide some temporary relief by putting her in a bathroom and getting it all steamy, or allowing her to sniff Vick's Vap-O-Rub. This will not cure her breathing problems, but may make her feel better until you can get her to the vet.
We have some resident experts that may be able to give you more advice on making her comfortable, the above suggestions are what has worked for me and my cats, as well as some other suggestions that I cannot seem to remember right now, (senior moment
It may be, as the previous person said, just an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI). In other words, a cold. If so, the vet may give you antibiotics for her, which won't cure the infection but just fight any opportunistic infections. The URI is caused by a virus, and there's nothing much to be done for it. If your cat can't smell very well, she can't recognize food.
