I was looking at my Revival Animal Health catalog and they had this small section on feline acne. I remembered noticing some small black specks on Cammy's chin (they looked like flea eggs, but they definitely weren't), the section describe what she has perfectly. I decided to give it a few days, because it didn't seem to bother her at all. Then I read that section about feline acne. I used Jon's electric razor and shaved under her chin like I read on a website to do and clean it with peroxide. Is this some I can treat myself or should I get her straight to the vet?

IF it is feline acne you should be able to treat it at home. Just keep it clean and make sure she is eating out of clean bowls all the time.

You should be able to treat this at home. Please dilute the peroxide before using it though. Peroxide will destroy healthy tissue as well as dead tissue. Clean the area a couple times a day. Change your bowls to glass or stainless steel and wash between each feeding. I bought about a dozen of them at the dollar store and they are put in the dishwasher after each feeding. Also if you are using a plastic place mat, toss it out.

Okay, she doesn't have a plastic mat, and her bowls are stainless steel, so I guess the problem is I need to wash them every day? Is that what caused it?

Sorry to hear about this. We have been down this road as well. Let me tell you that our vet suggested using the stridex acne wipes and I did that for a week or two. The main problem was the bowl that I was using plastic and aluminmum. I have switched to glass only bowls and not one of my five cats has had any problems since. That is they fix to it all. :O)

I cannot say that is what caused it but I can say it wouldn't have helped it. I don't want to eat on the same plate that hasn't been washed between meals - the bacteria would be insane.

I would certainly recommend washing the dish before each meal/fill up. It takes but a minute and avoids the possibility of acne.
