Our new kitten Squeak is an indoor cat. Our old cat Dusty is an in/out cat that I like to bring in at night. Since Squeak as come to live with us, Dusty wants to spend more time outside away from the little pest.

At night, they both sleep on our bed, but now there are litter box issues. Dusty was howling in the middle of the night to go outside. I know that she had to go potty, but I wasn't getting up in the middle of the night, when there are perfectly good litter boxes in the bath next to our bedroom. (They sleep on our bed). I recently bought 2 additional litter pans, so now there are 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs, hoping that would solve issues. But all of a sudden Dusty won't use any of them because Squeak has been there first, to implant her scent in all the pans. This morning I saw that Dusty had solved the problem by going poop on one of our bathroom rugs.

So, how do I get her to use the litter box, or one of them, again?

I recently lost a cat/gained a new one and one of my boy cats was having none of it. He voiced his displeasure by peeing on the bathrug several times.

I bought some Cat Attract Litter Additive and added that to the box, along with a Feliway diffuser. Problem solved.

Hope you can find an easy solution as well.

Thanks Cally! I'll give that additive a try.

I have used the cat attract litter before with good results. It might help when Dusty poops on the rug to put it in the litter box. Instant Dusty scent in the right place.
Just a thought. Hope all goes well.
