Does anyone have any experience with urate stones? My 2 year old siamese - Nimitz- had a stone removed in july and it turned out to be a urate stone. Apparently he has to be on a reduced protein diet and we need to check his urine a few times a year. His liver function appears normal at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, Ku Ku had the surgery in July to remove not one but several.
One of them was quite big - almost a size of the tip of our pinky!

Anyways, we just received the result of chemical compound analysis, it turned out to be struvite. She's been on prescription diet C/D(both dry & wet) ever since and doing fine. I've an appointment coming up this week to get her urinalysis for follow-up. Depending on the result, she may have to be on a different diet(S/D) temporarily. I don't know what will happen after that - my vet hasn't told me that Ku Ku needs to get regular urinalysis but I must say it maybe a possibility.
I was told that urinary tract & bladder stone are lethal, especially for male cats.
One of my neighbor lost her male cat because of that.
She told me that she didn't know if the problem was that serious but she does know now.

Just FYI:

I believe getting regular urinalysis for future prevention is definitely a must.
Better safe than sorry
