Make that 1000 pages!!!!!

Saw a news report on it tonight...and in London...8000 copies of the books has been stolen.

A truck carrying 8000 copies was stolen. Police found it later abandoned and very empty.

Well no point in pre-ordering from amazon here. The shipping costs for express delivery overseas are murder. I'll wait until the books reach the stores. Hopefully the English version will be avaiable soon enough.

So, today at work I was talking about the Harry Potter books with two other people who are also big fans. And this question came up...If no one can Apperate/Disapperate at Hogwarts, how did the final Portkey (the Cup) work in Book 4. Any opinions?
From what I understand of the Portkey, I think it had to do with the rules of the competetion. With apperation and disapperations, normally it is done without a physical trigger. The Portkey, as a solid object, was used like a telephone wire sending a call, the portkey just sends a person. Plus the competetion was done as a separate thing from the school, so maybe it had it's own laws of magic attached to it.

Can you tell I have given this a lot of thought LOL!

Supposedly the next 2 books are also almost finished.

So have I. It was nice yesterday to have a discussion with two other big fans. We were debating all kinds of things-for instance, if Harry is somehow protected from detection by Voldemort when he's not at school, how come Hagrid was able to hunt him down on the island to give him his school letter?

Maybe we should start a discussion thread about the books when the new book comes out. Anyone else game?

I am up for that!

I think that Voldemort has been too weak from the original and subsequent interactions with Harry to be able to hunt him down amongst the Muggles.

Dumbledore probably has some connection to Harry, due to placing him after his parent's death. Hagrid probably was directed by Dumbledore.

Anyone anxious to see the next movie and how the new actor will protray Dumbledore?

Mike said he heard somewhere that other Potter movies were filmed while Dumbledore was alive- the author has 8 finished books about Harry Potter, (though not all published yet) so maybe Hollywood did do other Harry Potter movies all at once while the cast was still available?

Although that would be great, I don't think it's true
Christopher Columbus, who did One and Two, decided not to do Three because he wanted to return his family to the US. There was a search for another director, and Richard Harris passed during this time. I don't know if they've even started filming Three, so there will be no Harry Potter this Thanksgiving

There are a couple of references that lead you to the fact while Harry is at the Dursley's he is only protected by magic while he is in the house. In the 4th book, at then end when Voldemort has Harry and he is speaking, he makes the remark about how difficult it has been to get his hands on Harry because if he's not at school, where he is protected by Dumbledore, then he's at the Dursely's where he is protected by magic. So, when the Dursley's took him to the cave, Harry was "trackable" even though he was with them because he was not at the actual house.

They are in the middle of filming the 3rd movie but there has been some delays because some of the set employees have threatened to quit or go on strike.

Really! That would be so cool. From everything I have heard, the change in directors and the death of Richard Harris would push the next movie back a year. Although it might be a good idea to wait a year, because I think Return of the King (LOTR) is going to be HUGE.

I'll find the links where I've been getting my info, but the 3rd movie isn't going to be released until 2004.

Okay, guys. My local news reported last night that Rowling stated in an interview that one of the major characters dies. According to what the news said Rowling said, when she had finished writing the chapter where the character dies, she cried and went down to the kitchen to tell her husband.

Now, I can't stop thinking of who it might be. It's driving me nuts!!! Anyone care to discuss?

Hmm, can't be the 3 Musketeers. Most likely won't be Hagrid, Dumbledore or McGonagal (sorry, my spelling is horrid today)-too important. Most likely won't be anyone in the Weasley family-too popular. One of the Dursleys? I can't imagine Rowling would cry over them. How about Remus Lupin? I've heard his brother Romulus shows up in a later book, but I read nothing about him.

I heard that as well. From what I understand it is one of the more popular important charactors and it is vital to the ultimate ending of the series. I have a feeling (I jope not) that it is Hagrid. I think it has to be someone close to Harry so that it is a devistating loss to him.

Movin' on up!
My copy has been shipped. The charge has shown up on my bank statement. List price is $29.99 - With S & H, my copy is only $21.95. Double delight: a book that I've waiting for AND a bargain. In the future, I will pre-order books.

Not Hagrid!! Noooooo!

Well, in that case, how about Sirius Black? I've gotten the idea that he's not only Harry's godfather, but is becoming a father/uncle.

Or Dumbledore? Without him around, Voldemort may be willing to directly attack Harry at Hogwarts.
