I'm so used to people on TCS rescuing cats and taking in strays, that I kinda forgot that people do it "in real life" too!

A new client I met with today has a couple of kitties, one of whom is old and sick with kidney issues. They're doing what they can to make his last months comfortable. It's heartening to know how much people do care, and they're willing to go the distance and help their cats as much as they can, because oftentimes people will use it as an excuse to just put the cat down.
Their other cat is healthy and a lovely ex-stray. They spent all winter slowly and carefully enticing him in and earning his trust, and now he's a very happy indoor/outdoor cat, who clearly knows he's got it made. He struts around like the king of the castle! So funny to see, and sad to think that he had such a hard life before on the streets when he's such a great pet. They've got him neutered and up-to-date on shots, and have fattened him up a bit. He's a wonderful pet, gentle when playing even though he had his claws out he never scratched as he knew not to hurt.
I feel sad for all the cats missing out on good homes and happy lives, but I was very pleased to meet this lovely lady who has adopted stray cats all her life and given them a wonderful home.

I feel that way about my foster boys who were strays. They know they have it made. Tex actually got outside recently - very briefly

Flies came in through the garage and they were buzzing around on the front storm door. I opened it to shoo them out and Tex took off after them.

OK - I didn't panic. I have an enclosed courtyard so I stepped out onto the porch and called him. He got as far as the gate and stopped in his tracks. When he realized he was OUTSIDE he froze, crouched down and his tail started to quiver in fear. He hitailed it back over to the door and I scooped him up and took him back inside.

No more "outside" for this boy!! LOL!

I love to meet other cat people. I went to help out a new nurse at another prison and she had a big picture of her cat on her desk. I find it so much easier to talk to cat people. Thank you for sharing such a nice story. It's heartening to know that "they" are out there, too.

It is nice to know there are a lot of people out there that do care and do a lot for animals, it's easy to forget somtimes because they're not the ones you hear about.

Thanks for reminding us that there are other people out there doing rescue work and caring. Sometimes it all seems so hopeless.

I get depressions and cry and cry and cry over all the abused and homeless cats in the world. I try to focus on the fact that there are people out there, like the ones in this forum, who do all they can to counteract all the evil against cats. Even saving one makes a difference. But most of the time, even knowing that, I walk around with a broken heart and tears in my eyes.

I'm involved in a few online animals communities. I'm used to everyone there being extra compassionate towards animals, and it's rare that I experience it in "real life."

Last week a stray cat had kittens in the garage of a house nobody was living in. I know who owns the house, so I called them to let them know there was a kitty family living in their garage and some kids had kicked in the door to get to the cats. I was shocked when the family took the entire kitty family into the home, put them in the basement with litter boxes and plenty of food, and is now willing to keep the mama and 5 babies until they are adopted out through a rescue I found to help. The rescue can't physically take the cats in, but they will pay for the vetting. The family even offered to pay for the mama cat to be spayed! I was so excited that this family was so willing to help out so much! It's sad to say that it was such a surprise to experience this these days.
