excessive ear licking/grooming

I have two 5 month old boys, Ponce & Doodad, brothers and recently neutered. Very sweet and entertaining guys

One of the things I've noticed about them is they will get into these "lick-fest" (my term) sessions wherein Doodad totally goes to town on Ponce's ears. Not just inside the ears, but all around -- the base of the ear especially. Sometimes, wrapping his arms around Ponce to hold him in position. Ponce just lays there, all slant-eyed, apparently enjoying it.

On one occasion Doodad actually licked a sore spot on poor Ponce's right ear and I had to watch them for a while to make sure it didn't get worse.

I figure this is normal kitty grooming behaviour, but I've never seen it occur with anything near the level of gusto Doodad displays.

Wanted to see if anybody else sees this with their cats and if they grow out of it.

When I got ReeRee Fiona would hold him down and groom him pretty aggressively. It did get better over time. I think it is partly a dominance/trust thing.
