Tasha has always been TERRIFIED of hubby (we're talking pooing when she sees him) which is very sad because she was supposed to be HIS kitten & he is the one that picked her out at the OSCPA.

After an entire year (literally) of letting her be her wild self, and trying to slowly tempt her to be our friends last night Tasha jumped up on the bed and let my husband pet her!!!!!

I can't explain what a monumentally exciting and surprising and absolutely wonderful turn of events this has been! She did start to accept me about 6 months ago because I've been home with the baby, but has never stopped being scared of hubby. With me it progressed from her hopping up while I was on the bed, to being able to come up & pet her around the house (she still runs if I look at her the wrong way though).

We've both noticed a BIG difference in Tasha since we brought Peaches home, I don't know why having a third cat (and maybe it's because Peaches is closer to Tasha's age) made such a big difference, but she's been less and less shy the last few weeks.

There is hope for wild cats everywhere!

Aww, that's a great story!
My mom and I adopted a very shy scared cat Cleo (RIP) from the SPCA when I was volunteering there 12 years ago(i talked her into it BECAUSE she was so shy- i didn't think anyone else would want her). We seriously didn't see her for the first 2 months or so, she always hid under the sofa and under beds. She eventually began to trust us and realise we just want to love her and care for her, and after maybe 2 years or so she was a very affectionate kitty and quite the purr machine too!

It's so great when they do come around and realise that you're not out to get them, just out to love them.

My best cat EVER was Riki (
) who spent the first three days growling in my closet at anyone who walked past my room. She absolutely adopted me and I remember as clearly as if it were yesterday, that 3rd night when she ran out of the closet, hopped on my bed and nonchalantly meowed at me for pets. Riki never accepted anyone the way she did me, but we spent HOURS together, she even used to come in the shower with me! We were inseparable for 8 years, best of friends until she died just a few years ago, she's still sitting on the bookshelf in my bedroom & I miss her everyday. My kitty-cat soul mate.

So Tasha wasn't my first shy cat, but she's truely a wild one! I'm sure in another year or two though she'll be a regular house-cat. She's actually been spending every nap time in my son's room, I even caught them playing together when I went to get him
. He's sitting in bed giggling his butt off and Tasha was behind the crib with that goofy look on her face.

Maybe Tasha was just really worried we were replacing her with Peaches so decided she better get with the program?
