We didn't have much of a summer here as well, but I did enjoy the cool nights for great sleeping. We had a couple days in the 90's last week, but that was it for the heat. I have noticed a few sugar maples are showing the signs of turning red, which seems a bit early to me. I am not ready to hear these words "Lake effect snow warning". I just feel like summer was never here, since we never had any true hot days, except for the 2 or 3 last week.

haha call me fickle but I can't WAIT for fall and winter!! I was saying that for summer just a few months ago..
I just want to cuddle up with a kitty in front of a fireplace or go skiing, which is my favorite thing to do in the winter. I love ski resorts and I love the small cottages we typically rent during ski vacation..it's winter paradise.

I had no idea that you could plant hibiscus as a perennial here! So you plant it in the early fall, and it will survive the winter OK? I always thought of them as sub-tropical kind of plant.

Today I saw flocks of geese practicing their flying maneuvers.
Google dinner plate hibiscus. It says it is reliably hardy in Zone 4 and if protected marginally hardy in Zone 3. It's a beauty. There are hardy perennial hibiscus varieties. It is in the hollyhock family which grows well in our climate.

Signs of autumn here:
Robins and Crows gathering/leaving.
The falcon chicks appear to have left.
Those giant rabbits are becoming noticeably white from their summer brown.
Many trees have begun/finished changing colour already
alas
That said, here in Edmonton we are currently having our most summery weather yet - its supposed to be 29C today....will be hottest day of summer if it actually happens

Mornings are chillier, finally need a light sweater for dog walks in the a.m.

Saw our first Vee of Canadian geese go overhead this morning.

No leaf color yet, but the oaks are dropping like crazy, they don't really color up, just brown up and drop.

I'm not sure I believe that there is such a thing as autumn any more.
Still in the 100's around here.

Definitely feels the signs of autumn here too.

The leaves have been turning colour for a couple of weeks here and a few are already dropping.

There is a keen freshness to the air in the morning and in the breeze.

The brambles are full of blackberries, the mulberries on our tree (the first year where we've had a crop) have turned colour and the holly berries are turning red. Our trees are loaded with holly berries this year.

The starlings are starting to gather and will be making their migration before long.

The new students start at the University in a couple of weeks - oh boy do I know autumn is here then after a loooonnngggg summer of no teaching

Well I hear the crickets more-esp the one hidden somewhere in the door jam of the family room.

The burning bush shrubs are showing some color as well as other trees but some of this my be drought related stress!

Many of my ornamental grasses are pushing out their seedheads and the hydrangeas are blooming. Tomatoes slowly ripening too!

Fall is on the way-the cats are eating more!

One huge sign in my neck of the woods. Most of the tourist have gone home....I actually had to go to the bank and make a few other stops yesterday and it only took me about 45 minutes in total as opposed to 3 hours only a couple of weeks before. So it would seem our little town is preparing to roll it's sidewalks for the season..
