Mandatory 5% pay cut @ work

We were just informed today that starting 9/1, there will be a 5% pay cut where I work. It's supposed to be temporary, but I have my doubts about that.

As it is, I'm barely eating and may have to disconnect my cable, phone and internet. But I am grateful I still have a job and a roof over my head, as there are so many that have it so much worse.

As goofy as it may sound I appreciate my cats even more because despite tough times they make me smile and love me every day.

Sorry to hear about your paycut and hoping it's temporary. If I had to cut cable tv or internet, I would choose cutting cable. I know of someone who had a 10% paycut temporarily but now they are getting their 10% back.

We took a 10% cut in my workplace, I guess it's three years ago now. We got it back the next year. I agree with the above poster, though -- if any of those items had to go, it would be cable tv before internet -- hands down.

I hope it really is temporary for you, too.

I'm so sorry to hear this. We took a 5% pay cut at work as well, it started in the middle of July. It's supposed to be until the end of the year, then we go back to our regular pay. But we'll see about that.

Like the others, I would cut the cable out before internet because you can always watch tv over your computer

and that this is indeed temporary.

OMG, I would have to get a second job. That is terrible.

Sorry to hear that. They did the same thing at my work...and took it all out of two checks rather than over a 12 month period. I hope yours is only temporary and things get better for us all.

I've already applied for a few jobs. This could end up working out well if I can get a higher paying job! Thanks for all the vibes and good thoughts. I need them!
