Hi,
Can anyone suggest a way of dealing with my neighbour's cat who has taken to us? I already have an elderly cat (18 1/2) and I don't want her upset. This little madam who is trying to be my friend started to visit us a week ago, has been in our house, is miaowing to come in, has been in my office and laid on my desk, is doing all the rubbing legs etc. She's very sweet but she has got to go back home! Can anyone offer any suggestion as to how to get her to go home and forget us? We are not feeding her but we have picked her up and stroked her and stuff.
Thanks!

Can you talk to the neighbors about keeping her inside?

How is she getting inside?
First and foremost you need to stop that. When you're outside with her you have to choose whether you're going to be friendly, and encourage her, or just outright ignore her.

Otherwise, I don't know what you can do to keep a cat out of your yard short of cat (and animal) proofing it. Never leave food outside, either.

I have a pair of brothers that visit me every day. Their home, across the street, has an extended family in it with a lot of children - it's noisy and their back yard is occupied by the family's (aging) boxer.
They're sweet, so I let them hang out back there where it's nice, quiet, and cool (shady).
The family knows and doesn't care.

Is the cat calico or tortishell? My calico moved herself into my place 'cause she wanted attention and regular food. Or, she was just curious as I leave my back door open on warm days. My veterinarian said calico's are particular and will shape their own world as they like it.

Also, I have cat vibes. This may sound hooey-wooey but I give off vibes that cats like. I attended an Animal Communication workshop and that was the attraction for the two I have now.

I'd be curious to hear if you have met with the neighbor and sorted out the why of it. You are offering her something she wants.

Most animal lovers are like this, animals seem to know they can trust us. Heck, I have wild doves in the backyard that aren't even scared of me.
They always shoo away when my DH tells them to, they stay and coo at me.

Also, if you have a cat already you're going to smell like cat.
I think this is why some of us get cats following or coming up to us in the most unlikely of places.
