So I took in a 10 week old female shorthair with the most gorgeous seal point coat and blue eyes...she was found wandering outside, apparently part of a strays litter. Any way, so I haven't had a kitten since I was a little girl--and back then, I didn't control what the kitten ate, so I'd like some recommendations for food.

I want something very high quality, preferably grain free. How is the Wellness Kitten? I was thinking about switching my dog and adult cat over to Wellness Core when they finish their Blue Buffalo bags. That way, this cat could transition to Core when it's an adult too. I've read a lot of positive reviews about the Innova brand--however, it's only available at one store in my area--a mom and pop store and they ridiculously overcharge for it--also my dog just never had firm stools on it(I know it's very high protein).

Thoughts?

Also--this is offtopic, but I'm having a problem with the kitten eating the dog's food--the Blue Buffalo small breed. I discourage her from doing this and pick up the bowl when I see it, but that won't hurt her, will it?

Too much dog food isn't good for her - as she fills up on that & not kitten food, missing out on the nutrients in kitten food.

As for kitten food - Wellness is an OK food, although it is overpriced, IMO. I was sucessfully feeding Wellness' adult (blue bag) for the past year, & I ended up switching for 2 reasons. One being my cats no longer did well on it (maybe the changed forumula? their coats were horrible & poop got soupy) & they ate 2x as much of that as they did other foods.

In general, the brands that are high quality for adult food are also for kitten food. I would be hesitant to feed a grain free to a kitten, so do advise kitten food until your baby has grown up more (And we'd love to see pics of her)

I know you said grain free but my kitten a 6mo ragdoll is fed chicken soup kitten and california naturals and healthwise the last two are all stage feeds. He does very well on them, super soft coat, good weight and full of energy which can be both good and bad LOL
