My cat Grace is 1 and 1/2 years old, but has been having this problem ever since she was litter box trained just over a year ago. She goes to the bathroom in the litter box no problem, but when she has to pee, instead of squatting, she lifts her butt up and pees all over the wall, or the litter bucket, or the wastebasket, or whatever is next to the litterbox. I don't think it has anything to do with a UTI, since she doesn't pee anywhere in the house, and never exhibits any trouble or discomfort urinating in the litterbox. It's also been going on for over a year. She also doesn't do it if there isn't anything next to the litterbox, but the only way that happens is if I keep it in the middle of the room, and my house just isn't that big. Any ideas as to why it's happening and how to stop her from doing it?? (my other cat doesn't do it, if that matters) Thanks for any input!!

Go to the vet amd make sure it isn't uti. If it's not then try a covered litter box or my favorite, a rubbermaid container. The rubbermaid's sides are so tall she would have to stand on her head to pee outside of it, LOL.

Good luck, I hope it's not uti!

Checking to make sure it's not a UTI is a good idea.

If your cat doesn't like covered litter boxes, you can find litterboxes that have three high sides which helps for those sort of problems (one of my males does the same thing). I bought mine at Petsmart, but I'm sure they can be found elsewhere.

Good luck!

Just to be on the safe side, I *always* suggest testing for a UTI. They may not exhibit any physical symptoms.

As for the way she pees - is she spayed?

You can try a large Rubbermaid storage container - I have a "high pee-er" & that works for her.

I agree, check for UTI just in case. And I also wondered if she was spayed. I didn't realize until I had two unspayed females indoors that they also spray like a male. Bascially its to attract a mate. They were about the same age when they started doing it too.

BTW...welcome to TCS!
