We are trying to set up our room for the semi feral girl coming home tomorrow just spayed.

Please help...Is it true to use organic soil at first as the litter? then go to clay litter, clumping if we prefer this type lastly?

makes sense of course, but please share your experience in this for us. First time taking in a semi feral kitty.
ALSO... should we cage her or allow her freedom in the bedroom? Concerned the cage may stress her out more and she could open her stitches???

No, the cage as such should rather feel as a safety. Especielly if you can make it nice and cozy. Being also a little of a hiding place.
Semiferales are used to hide a couple of days if necessary.

It is rather the opposite. If she is caged, you can get at take a look on her stiches, or give her some medicines if the necessity should arose. If she is free, you must perhaps firstly hunt her out and get her... THIS is stressful.

Lay something over the cage so it is like a tent. Or make her a nest inside. Perhaps in a sideturned cardboard box.

So. Having her free in that bathroom is OK. But if you have a dog sized cage, it may be useful to have her there.

And of course, if you dont have any useful room; using a big dog cage helps out turn an unsuitable room into an useful room...

ps. You did mentioned somewhere she is friendly? You shouldnt have problems with her freaking out. Not as long she feels reasonably safe. Thus no alarming sounds like barking dogs, yelling children and so on...
IF you still worry, you can safeguard by using a Feliway diffuser. This will make her feel a little more safe and comfortable with the situation. (Although Feliway is usually not necessary).

Good luck!
