i think that is because of all the dangers we present to them. cars are a major one. the few areas that a cat could live in that would be wooded have much larger population of wild animals simply because of all of our housing developments, and the areas where coyotes, cougars, bears, raccoons, etc are getting smaller and smaller. we lay out poisen for mice and rats, cats eat those and it can kill them. there is much more open areas since people took down trees and a eagle could catch a cat better that way. also you have to take into fact all of our inventions such as antifreeze and poisens...Originally Posted by sharky
yes in the wild they eat the same things but for the first 6-12 months in big cats mom does all hunting and regurtiates for a period of time... remember our domestic cats live 2-5 yrs in the wild
Even though mom hunts and "chews up" the kittens food, they are still getting the same nutrients... That is the part I'm questioning when it comes to feeding a kitten food. I'm questioning whether "kitten food" is just a hyped up name, to allow manufacturers to charge more $ for it.Originally Posted by sharky

If they can eat the same things in the wild, why can't they in the home? (I don't think the shortened lifespan is due to the nutrients in what they eat)
