Mood dependent on nose color?

Hi!

I've noticed something about my boy cat, Spencer, that is interesting. He will come around from time to time throughout the day and his interest in me depends on his mood. He may want to be held, petted or fed. Sometimes he might just want to sit next to me.

Sometimes he is extremely sweet and wants to cuddle. He will put his paw on my arm or face and purrs alot.

I've noticed that when he is in this "affectionately sweet" mood, his normal pink cat nose is a very very light shade of pink if not almost white like his face.

He's healthy, shots and all and had his spring check up so I was curious if there is something in a cats nose that could do this depending on what other things are going on with their mood.

thanks!
benda

Ni, my cuddler, has a pink nose. Never really noticed changes in color. I'll have to check it out!

Ku Ku's nose is pale-pink but it changes depending on her mood just like your boy-cat

When she's extremely stressed, mad, or excited, it turns into bright(almost reddish) pink. Also, same happens when she runs around or playing around a lot. I'm sure it's got something to do with her blood-circulation - just like human-being, as her blood-pressure goes up or down(either by mood or her physical condition) that changes the color of her nose. Like Santa's reindeer.
I think it's cute, though

Chynna's nose changes colour too!

When she's getting her lovings, her nose becomes a brighter pink and gets cold and wet. usually her nose is a pale pink and warm and dry.

I haven't really noticed Abby's nose changing colour other than the freckle on her nose getting darker in colour, and her nose also gets wet and cold when she's getting lovings.

Also, both of my kitties drool when happy. Chynna drools all over, Abby increases her swallowing so she tends to retain it!

I noticed that when we took Fable to the vets, his nose went quite dark, he was very stressed and growling.

When Gigi is hot or in WILD (and I mean WILD!) mode, her nose is bright pink, almost red! So it stands to reason that your kitty's nose would appear to be real light when relaxed/affectionate...'cuz he's not in wild "bright" mode at the time!

Speck has a pink nose. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
That is really an interesting phenomenon. I know that there is a breed of dog that's nose turns pink or it blushes or something (a Pharoah hound).

Yes, please let me know-- its like a little mini science experiment.

I couldn't find anything on the web about it. I'll probably ask my vet next time I see her about it and find out what causes it. Probably is a blood flow thing of some sort.

Spencer's sister, Gracie's nose is pink to but I haven't really noticed the same on her. I'll have to start watching her too.

Wow thats very interesting I've worked at a vet clinic for 8 years and I have never actually noticed that. I havent really paid that much attention to the cats noses either.

I been watching cat noses now too, but not very good test jubjects. Watched Tippy, Da Magpie and Da Lip. Da Lip has a darkish nose, and I am not sure what I expected to see on the other two as they have black noses and all Da Magpie did was put a nose spooge on my glasses. Streak is my next victi......er subject, did try Hissy but she didn't want to have anything to do with me this morning. Everything else has dark noses or mottled noses or are wild.

Our Much's nose will vary from almost white to a rose pink. With her, it tends to be any sort of excitement or stress that changes it to a darker color.

Our cat Molly has a changing nose too!

Her nickname is bleat so we call it the "bleat-o-meter" when it's dark pink you know she's been up to no good

She also has tuxedo markings (white and grey though)

Joey's nose gets very pale & he will seek lots of cuddles and affection when his heart fibrillation is acting up. It was at last year's "wellness-check" that a student vet (she also uses Chinese holistic medicine) saw his pale nose & investigated & discovered his irregular heartbeat. So, I tend to worry when I see his pale nose - glad to see that it can also be attributed to his moods !whew!!!

First - I have to say that I'm really enjoying all the posts you have all done-- and your kitties are all so adorable!!!

Next- this has really been a fun "experiment". After hearing about how a lot of the darker pink noses meant that they were kind of feisty- I'd have to agree-- when Spencer comes up to me and plops down next to me to bite/cat kiss my arm-- he usually has a darker pink nose.

I never noticed the nose color change before him- My last kitty, BabyKat, had a black nose, so never saw the change.

It will be fun to see if there are others out there that have experienced the same type of thing!! Hmmmm....Spencie's pads are pink too--- i wonder if his feet change color too?

ok--- so trying to look at Spencer's feet when he is in a cuddly mood didn't work.

he got fed up, walked off and is probably sulking in some other part of the house now.

guess I'll settle on just seeing his nose change color.
