Is anyone else addicted to using coupons?
DH has banned me from Kmart for the rest of the week. They are having double coupon sales which means a big opportunity for free stuff. Friday we did a price check and spent 45mins in the store(another reason too). Then Sunday I spent 1.5hr shopping and double checking my coupons for fine print. Monday I spent 1.5hr b/c I was confusing myself with stuff sold out and how to redo my list. Yesterday I did good with only 20mins but was cheated on a few items.

Now I am sitting here bored out of my mind wondering how to move on.

I am always on the look-out for coupons, in this day and age you have to be. I also use my air miles card a lot, not for traveling points but to redeem $20 food vouchers. Last Christmas I cashed in my points and got 6 of them which is all you can collect at one time, plus I also had a voucher for a 25lb turkey, so basically everything for my whole Christmas dinner for 10 people was free.

My best bargain ever was the first time I ever used my Air miles card I won 6 tickets to the Skate the Nation Gala in Toronto. It was a charity event and the tickets were being sold for $500 each.

That's awesome.

I read that a few people bought $300 worth of stuff at Kmart for under $5. It's very time consuming but so worth it & it feels great to save.

I go through the Kroger/Meijer/KMart ads every week and compare them. All three will double coupons up to 50 cents. In fact, Kroger will triple up to 50 cents! I think it's kind of fun comparing the ads with my coupons and making a list of what I'm buying where : )

I used to save tons of money on coupons, but the ones in the paper here are not really worth bothering with. I need to find a new source.

I live in NJ and just about every supermarket has double coupons all the time up to 99 cents. Every now and then they have triple coupons.

Do you know you can print from online? You just have to ask your store if they accept them. KMART does by the way and I have gotten tons of stuff this week for free.

That is amazing! I guess they need to get people in and shopping still, but you have to wonder how they're making a profit from all these sales.
I love bargain shopping though!

I rarely use coupons anymore. The ones I get in the Sunday paper are a rip-off. They're always for overpriced name brand stuff and even with the coupon, the generic stuff is always cheaper. I have no problems with using generic products. Then the coupons will be something like $1.00 off 3. Whatever happened to $1.00 of 1? The only thing I use coupons for are cat food. Even then, I rarely find any coupons for the food I use.

Sometimes I think coupons encourage people to buy things they really don't need. It's like with Kohl's discounts. Everytime my mother gets a discount in the mail, she runs to the store looking for something to buy.

I used to be a huge coupon clipper, but I can't seem to find coupons anymore for things that I actually normally buy.

I remember one time some years ago a new Safeway store opened up in my city and they had double coupon on their opening day. I had hordes of coupons, some for $1.00. I bought almost $200 worth of groceries and when I went through the checkout they actually owed me money! I think I ended up getting close to $15 in change!!

Occasionally I use a coupon if I see one on the store shelves, but not typically.

Can someone fill me in on what "double" coupon days are? I've never heard of that.

Yup, I always use coupons if I have em.

I do these online surveys, and in return they send me product samples and coupons, I also sign up for alot of free samples which of course give you samples and coupons with them.

The stores around here don't really have coupons, except from time to time when its "cash for kids" time.

Best recent bargain: some yogurt granola bars were on sale, plus the boxes had a coupon on them, making the cost 50cents a box

I used coupons yesterday....the juiceboxes the kids use were on sale, plus I had 50cent off coupons.

I'm more of a sale shopper than coupons....(well both....if I actually have the coupons)

Cheap stuff is good, free stuff is good.

If you learn how to use them they aren't a waste. For instance $2 off visine drops but with double coupon at Kmart it is $4 off but the item is $3.99. I happened to run into a few saving professionals and am learning from them. What you have to do is spend lots of time looking for sales. However many ladies have made blogs for stores so you don't have to spend hours. They match up the coupons to the sale to show you the best deal. Of course some items might be missed but it's still worth it.

Chris,
Say you had .50coupon, at kmart it will be $1 off the item. What you want to do is stock up on the ones that come out free like Visine, Ajax soap, Kotex pantiliners...sometimes you can't be brand specific in your shopping to get the best deal. Scrubbing Bubbles toilet gel is also free. I just don't know if they do this out of the US.

I have a feeling that in Canada we don't get the crazy savings deals you do in the US.

Ah, gotcha. I think that must being a US thing, as I've never seen that here....
That would be awesome if we did tho.

I do wait for things to go on sale then use coupons as well
And there's certain things I will NOT buy unless they are on sale...( cheese for example.... reg. price is $7.99, sometimes more..... Sale price is $4.99)

I'm cheap..... most things around my house are not brand names, unless they were on sale. There's only 2 items offhand that I can think of that we buy brand name, Ketchup has to be Heinz, and weiners have to be Schneiders Red Hots.

Kmart just started this 3 months ago. It runs for a week at a time and you have to spend 25$ before the coupons will double. You can still get away with under $5 bill. I think it's to help with competition. Right now they are the only store around that accept the printable/internet coupons. If it wasn't for this other forum I would have no clue about these deals.

Here Safeway used to offer double coupon days occasionally. In most cases it would be for coupons under $1.00. Meaning that if you had a 50 cent coupon, they would double the value at the cash register so you actually got $1.00 off. Occasionally Safeway would allow for a coupon that was $1.00 or more in value. That's what they did at that grand opening where they gave me money back at the cash register and my groceries didn't cost me anything.

Now they just give extra air miles rewards, which is nice, but I'd rather have double coupons.

Our newspapers here used to have a day where there were loads of coupons to clip. Plus there were flyers delivered to the house with various coupons. But I guess clipping coupons has gone by the wayside where I live because most coupons I find now are for things like over the counter medications, and not so much for actual grocery items.

You should look into the kmart deals. See if your store participates. It ends saturday.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Im not a big coupon clipper just because where I live Weis and Giant have club cards where you get deals out the wazoo just for having the card and then also get gas points for using it too. At one point I got my mom down to like 30 cents per gallon she got because I use her cards for my grocery shopping and it helps too cuz shes my ride back and forth for that kind of stuff so it helps out too in how much I give her in gas money LOL....And I dont buy namebrand either except when it comes to the dog and cats everything else I get is generic it works and tastes the same to me!

I've been known to clip coupons from Sunday's paper (that's when we get the bulk of them here) and forget I have them to use later and only find them after they have expired.

The one coupon that DBF and I take advantage of the most are Papa John's pizza. When I can find the coupon for Schick quatro razors then I'll use it too.

I also go for generic brands most of the time. Except for DBF's mustard has to be Heinz, Campbell Soup for Clam Chowder and Mac-N-Cheese has to be from Kraft.
