I just bought a bag of Feline Fresh scoopable pine litter
http://www.planetwiseproducts.com/index.htm

I've tried the Arm and Hammer high performance stuff before (not pine, I think it was corn?) and my cats didnt like it (and it was expensive).

Last night I put a layer of the pine litter with a thin layer of clay litter on top and this morning the boys had used that one litter box three times!

I'm trying it in two more boxes (one with my new kitty) so I'm hoping it'll be a big hit!

It seems to be decently priced, it was about $10 for a #17 bag which they claim is the same as a #40 box of clay litter (which I pay $10 for too).
I'm so excited, I hate them breathing all that clay dust!

My only question is about the smell, I dont want my house to smell like a barn (especially because I'm selling) from the pine. I could definitely smell it just from that one box and it reminded me of a stable/hamster cage. If you've tried pine has anyone commented about a barn smell?

I have used the feline pine and also another pine one (can't remember the name) I personally hated it! I had to change it everyday! when it got wet it seperated and it tracked ALL OVER plus it did not cover the smell of the cats using the box at all. Maybe some other people will have better reviews for you....sorry

I tried feline pine and loved the smell, but the cats didn't like digging in the pellets. I also like Disney Aristocats pine crumbles and I mix that with the biodegradeable Arm & Hammer. Mixed together, I seem to get a pleasant but not overwhelming smell, and it is great at clumping.

I have tried Feline Pine- needless to say, I hated that junk. The cats seemed to not really mind, but then again they will pee or poo on anything that is put into their litterboxes
. I also LOVED the initial smell- I used to own a horse and basically grew up in barns, so it really reminded me of those wonderful, sadly missed days. But they tracked that cr@p all over the dang house! And if I were to step on it, or when it would get into my bed, it would prick me. I actually got a splinter from it when I was trying to pick it out of my carpet. And just like in a barn, once it gets wet, it starts to really stink. It doesn't handle the ammonia smell very well, it gets very musty very quick. So I will never be using that again! I have had really good luck with Swheat Scoop- it's a clumping wheat litter. I mix it with plain, natural unscented clumping litter. This concoction really seems to keep the odor down- I live in a small flat of a duplex, so when the litter starts to stink, you can smell it EVERYWHERE. I've been doing this for a few months now, and I think I'm gonna stick with this.

If you're trying to sell your house, I would recommend possibly trying this. And I find that mixing it with an unscented, cheap clumping litter is really cost-efficient (which is a big deal to me). It will save you money, rather than just using the wheat alone. And it lasts longer too- I don't need to do whole box changes at least every couple weeks like I used to.

(oh, and there really isn't that much dust at all. It even seemed to help with Pirate's allergies)

I have tried pine in a scoopable format and in pellets. Love the smell
The scoopable was to light a didn't clump so well, it also got over the place, but I had fun using the little scoop to make it fly everywhere. I am using pine pellets right now. I don't even smell the pine in less I am close to it. The cats don't cover their 'stuff' and when it gets wet it turns into saw dust.

I've been using it for yrs..it came in handy when I had a diabetic cat that peed tones and would end up wearing clay slippers with the scoopable kind...he has passed on but I still use pine....I like it...I now buy it at a feed store way cheaper....I buy 40 pound bags for around $7

I tried it for about a month in one litter box. You couldn't really smell the pine unless you standing right next to it. I didn't have any trouble with it being tracked through the house because the cats refused to use it.
I think the entire time I had it out there were two "deposits". The other litter boxes just got a little extra use.

We use the wood stove pellets - you might want to switch to those once your cats are very used to using pellet litter all the time.

Its only $5 for a 40lb bag of wood stove pellets

I used the pellets & liked it. IMO, the scent is not too strong but covers odor pretty well. Ku Ku doesn't seem to mind that either.
Only downside was that whenever it got tracked(and it happened all the time), there'd be piece of pellets everywhere on the floor! Still easier & less messier to clean-up than other type of litters anyways. I'd definitely keep using it if only that's always available at my local stores(unfortunately NOT, I've been using swheatscoop instead).

I used Feline Pine and Lucky didn't like it - she actually started peeing in the living room rug because of it. It was a DRAG to get her peeing back in the litter box.
The problem I think was that the pellets were too rough on her paws...

Wow, the wood stove pellets is a good idea. Do they clump or do you just change the entire box? My boys seem to think the pine litter that I'm using now is ok, they're not using it as much as the other boxes but they do each box a few times a day.

I used clumpable pine litter before and absolutely hated it. The tracking was even worse than clay litter and I was told that tracking was minimal from a few people not on this list. I've also tried the pine pellets (wood stove pellets) and although it worked fine for my foster then, whenever my cat walked out from using the litter box, it smelled like he brought the whole toilet with him. I couldn't stand it; I could smell everything with him, so ditched it as well.

I've been using Yesterday's News ever since and don't have too many complaints about it, BUT now we have a second cat and the cost for YN is prohibitive. So, we might have to look for something else...sigh.

I tried using Feline Pine clumping litter for a while. The cats loved it, but I found that it made me sneeze! Plus, the tracking was pretty bad, as others mentioned.

My SIL tried to switch Tiger, their cat, to pine litter and he would not have it. He peed on the bed instead.
They had to throw the mattress away.

I use pellets that break down into saw dust when wet, using a sifting tray I just shake the tray daily and scoop out poops. The remaining pellets stay fresh and don't need to be thrown out.

I use Feline Fresh and I love it...it eliminates odour and it lasts a long time. It does track but I bought a high sided litter box and the problem has been 95% resolved. I use it because clay is bad for the cat's and a human's lungs and it's bad for the environment. I guess you could say pine is not too environmentally friendly as you have to cut down trees. but it's not bad for our lungs...so far.

Depends - I try to shift it out so the pellets last longer, but sometimes I'll just dump the entire box if there are not much pellets left.
