My vet said Bugsy needs to lose 2-3 lbs, but doesn't want to restrict him from food, due to the risks of HL. Instead, he advised me to add fiber to his wet food, and change his food to a food for diabetic cats, called Purina DM. He said that the reason behind that is that this food controls the insulin levels throughout the day, reducing considerably the hunger pangs, making him eat naturally less. I looked at the ingredients, and it is not bad - it is also very high protein, low carb, high fiber... The only question for me is that it has chicken by-products, and I am not sure how Bugsy will react to it (I think he is allergic, vet thinks he has IBS) I brought a sample bag home, and the three kitties like it; which is great since Hope doesn't like Origen... It would be nice to have all three on the same diet (hope is on all wet)
In his experience, he said he has had great success with this diet for fat cats, for regular cats (in maintaining health), and obviously for what it is intended: Diabetic cats... It costs $26 for a 6lb bag though! What do you guys think? Experiences??
