I once heard some wag say that we should test the glue on the the candidates' stickers. The one with the stronger glue will be the winner, since the winner's stickers seem to stay on cars so much longer than the loser.
I didn't vote for either one; my guy wasn't going to win, no matter what. But I personally had great hope for Obama. He held so much promise. I have to say at this point the jury is still out, and probably will be until about next November. I think the Democrats have planted the seeds of a real disaster for them in 2010, unless things go much better for the next 12 months.
I wouldn't change my vote, but I'm not displeased with how the election came out.

I am extremely proud of my decision. Okay, given that Joe Biden is a bit of a meathead at times (then again, who isn't?!), I still like both of them immensely. However, if it were between one of them and Hilary, I would've voted for Hilary. I think that she would've been the BEST choice for this country, given the state of our nation when they entered office.....

I received this in email. I tried to check it at snopes.com but couldn't find a reference, meaning I don't think it's been submitted yet:
Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:
Number of States won
by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won
by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won
by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won
by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republicans won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.
Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders (called "illegals") and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years. If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.
If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Here's another email. I don't think there is much argument about the accuracy of this information:
LOOK WHAT OUR PRESIDENT HAS DONE FOR US SO FAR.
Observations of the President's 1st 7 months:
1. Offended the Queen of England .
2. Bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia .
3. Praised the Marxist Daniel Ortega.
4. Kissed Hugo Chavez on the cheek.
5. Endorsed the Socialist Evo Morales of Bolivia .
6. Announced we would meet with Iranians with no pre-conditions.
7. Gave away billions to AIG. Also without pre-conditions.
8. Expanded the bailouts.
9. Insulted everyone who has ever loved a Special Olympian.
10. Doubled our national debt.
11. Announced a termination of the space defense system the day after the North Koreans launched an ICBM.
12. Despite the urgings of his own CIA director and the prior 4 CIA directors, released information on intelligence gathering.
13. Accepted without public comment the fact that five of his cabinet members cheated on their taxes and two others withdrew after they couldn't take the heat.
14. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who quickly identified as "dangers to the nation", groups including veterans of the military, and opponents to abortion on demand, and who ordered that the word "terrorism" no longer be used but instead referred to such acts as "man made disasters".
15. Circled the globe so he could openly apologize for America 's greatness.
16. Told Mexicans the violence in their country was because of us.
17. Politicized the census by moving it into the White House from its Department of Commerce origins..
18. Appointed as Attorney General the man who orchestrated the forced removal and expulsion from America to Cuba of a nine-year old whose mother died trying to bring him to a life of freedom in theUnited States.
19. Salutes as heroes three Navy SEALS who took down three terrorists who threatened one American life and the next day announces members of the Bush administration will likely stand trial for "torturing" a terrorist who had played a part in killing 3000 Americans by pouring water up their nose.
20. Flew Air Force One over New York City causing panic at a cost of $400,000 to get a photo you can make with Photo Shop for less than a dollar.
21. Sent his National Defense Advisor to Europe to assure Europe that the US will no longer treat Israel in a special manner and they might be on their own with the Muslims
22. Began the process of nationalizing the Auto Industry and the Insurance industry.
23 Announced that for all intent and purposes, the Health Insurance Industry will be nationalized.
And just think only 1292 days to go, if we have anything left.
These are True Facts, think about it.

I do not have a sticker on my car because I do not contaminate my beautiful ride with bullshits...I got a free sticker and still didn't put it on..And to talk about spending money on a bumper sticker, that I would NEVER do in a million years
If the candidate wants me to take up space on my personal vehicle to advertise his/her candidacy, I better be the one being paid not the other way around...

Goldenkitty45: I don't quite understand the point of your question, BUT: If he didn't win and I had the feeling he was going to run again, then yes, the sticker would be in my car - probably along with a few others, something like this: "America, what the heck were you thinking?"

Quite frankly, I think it was written by a redneck republican, who is off the charts right wing - therefore, junk.
And something else: A LOT that is in those emails are interpretations and opinions, NOT facts.

You may consider them unimportant and not worthy of consideration, but facts are facts. I cannot validate the accuracy of the election demographics facts, but the list of "accomplishments" are all proven. The disparity is in the importance you give them versus what I might give them.
And what proof do you have that they were written by a "redneck republican?" Your opinion? Could you be confusing facts with opinions?
I'm still looking for the Obama supporters list of his most important accomplishments in his 7 months in office?

No I don't think so, but you'd have to ask him! I just think they are interesting statistics. You will NEVER see me argue against the Electoral College. Not in 2000 in Florida, and not now.

I voted for Obama and stand by my decision. Obama has a lot on his plate considering he has to clean up Little Shrubbies mess
. When 9/11 happened Bush asked, if there was a way to tie the attacks to Iraq
all he wanted was their oil!!! So he started a war and let our soliders take it upon their shoulders. With that whole disrespecting the queen and all that stuff, did you ever think that Obama did those things as a way to be more personable with those people? He is trying something new. Dont get me wrong there are issues I dont quite agree with Obama on. But assuming that most dems who voted for Obama were welfare junkies, is quite insulting to me, I am a democrat and voted for BO and I work damn well hard for the money i earn and am a full time student. Dont ever compare me to people who abuse our system......
Watch this clip, it is only abpout 100 days into his term but i thought it was interesting. I want to get that book Accountable because id love to keep track of what Obama promised and actually does.

I beg to differ. Those are facts. Please explain which parts you think are opinions - that the Queen was offended? That one might be opinion, since we would have to ask her. The rest have all been documented and reported in the press.

--Worked with Congress to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a $787 billion economic stimulus package that includes nearly $100 billion in green spending to help get the economy back on track and to create millions of clean-energy jobs.
--Outlined a "clean energy" vision for America.
--Appointed an outstanding “green team†of top advisors, federal officials and cabinet secretaries.
--Sent Congress a proposed budget that makes clean energy and the environment top priorities and includes funding for energy and environmental programs throughout the federal government.
--Declared carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases a threat to public health and welfare, setting the stage for regulating greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming if Congress fails to pass legislation to address the issue.
--Protected more than 2 million acres of wilderness land and several rivers with the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009.
--Re-established the United States as a leader in international climate negotiations.
--Restored critical protections under the Endangered Species Act, which had been removed by a last-minute rule change in the final days of the Bush administration.
--Ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider its decision to deny California a waiver under the Clean Air Act, which would have enabled California and 17 other states to impose stricter-than-federal limits on greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.
--Reversed the Bush rule that opened the door to mountaintop removal coal mining and canceled several individual mountaintop mining permits.
--Put offshore drilling and oil shale exploration on hold and restored protections for public lands.
--Announced a new initiative to lease U.S. coastal waters for the purpose of generating electricity from wind and ocean currents.
--Repeatedly reaffirmed science and the rule of law as the standards by which federal environmental decisions shall be made.

No debating the post Dusty's Mom made, just blow it off. I guess there is no defense of Barack.

I have defended Barack, so don't say things like that. If you would pay attention, you would've noticed that. Read a few posts up, it's about the environment and some are highlighted in red (just so you NOTICE that someone IS defending him against such rude remarks).

Quite frankly, I think it was written by a redneck republican, who is off the charts right wing - therefore, junk.
And something else: A LOT that is in those emails are interpretations and opinions, NOT facts. |

Prove her wrong then, look up the stats on the Obama-McCain election results.

When 9/11 happened Bush asked, if there was a way to tie the attacks to Iraq
all he wanted was their oil!!! |

Really?! That sounds like sarcasm to me. Just looking for an argument. If you do a google search, you will find TONS of news articles stating his MANY positive accomplishments thus far (you have to take into consideration he's been in office for less than a year). You have an extremely negative outlook on this country's future. I'm sorry you feel this way, it must be sad for you to think like this all the time
. And BTW, those are NOT all true facts. |
Extremely negative outlook on this country's future?
Seriously, where were you for the last 6-8 years? I don't even know how many posts in this forum were the "America is lost...Bush is going to anoint himself King...Bush has destroyed this country". Overstated? Yes, definitely. Especially since those were reactions to policies that had definite termination dates (or re-up dates at the very least). Many of Obama's "changes" enacted thus far and what he's trying for now (healthcare) will not and cannot be undone for decades at least. He IS changing the fabric of America and how much power the government has in every person's life, and if you don't think that is a scary thought then you must not have a whole lot of experience with government. And oh yes, btw, what in that list isn't true?

I wouldn't call the "stimulus" bill a real accomplishment. It isn't stimulating...if it were they would have put more than 4% of it into the economy thus far when the economy is floundering. It's basically selling our country off to the Chinese since it's really their money we're spending. It's not ours. It is a grand government expansion bill passed without our legislators even reading the bill and voting under pressure of the new President to "save the economy" with a lot of rhetoric and panic-stricken language, i.e. without it unemployment would reach *gasp* 8% by the end of the year, and we need to save or create 500,000 jobs! Oops, it's at 9.5% and the national marketplace has lost well over 2 million jobs since it was passed. Guess that "stimulus" didn't do a whole lot of immediate "stimulating", did it?
What has Obama done? He's expanded government more than any time since the Great Depression in less than 3 months in office with that so-called "stimulus" bill, he's over doubled the annual deficit spending in less than 6 months is office (something he immediately bashed Bush on when he took office, expanding the deficit), he's quietly continued many of the programs started by Bush (i.e. telephone surveillance).
I didn't have to Google anything to come up with that list. Can you do the same? Can you come up with what he HAS done, that HAS been accomplished (not proposed)?

You have an extremely negative outlook on this country's future. I'm sorry you feel this way, it must be sad for you to think like this all the time
. And BTW, those are NOT all true facts. That sounds a tad like sarcasm to me. IMO, you seem to have an extremely negative outlook toward people that have differing opinions from you. I'm sorry you feel this way. But I won't insult you and put the rolling eye smilie in there. How about a wink instead? Carolina, this is something I can agree with you on. I know we've had our differences in the past, but this I really do support. You were spot on with this probably being written by some redneck republican just looking for the negativity in life. Just call me a Redneck Republican, it has a certain ring to it, I think I like it. ![]() What proof do we have that it wasn't written by a redneck republican????? ![]() Oh, I'm sure it probably was, those college professors are all a bunch of redneck Republicans you know. ![]() That would be a great idea!!! We all know that Bush didn't do any better than Obama so far... ![]() I was and continue to be very proud of President Bush for his handling of 9-11 and foreign policy. I want a strong POTUS, not a weak one. Here is a list of some of his POSITIVE environmental accomplishments just within his first 100 days (which in my opinion is one of the most important topics that need to be addressed immediately in this country): --Worked with Congress to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a $787 billion economic stimulus package that includes nearly $100 billion in green spending to help get the economy back on track and to create millions of clean-energy jobs. Of which, less than 5% has been spent and it is full of pork barrel projects for his cronies. --Outlined a "clean energy" vision for America. What exactly does that mean? That he wants to pass Cap and Trade which won't do squat to lower CO2 levels but will make our electricity rates soar. Do you pay utilities or do your parents? If the answer is your parent, they won't be happy with their utility bills. --Appointed an outstanding “green team†of top advisors, federal officials and cabinet secretaries. Rhetoric, this mean nothing IMO. He hired a bunch of tax cheats and Czars thirty plus Czars that answer only to HIM. --Sent Congress a proposed budget that makes clean energy and the environment top priorities and includes funding for energy and environmental programs throughout the federal government. Where is that funding coming from? From the American taxpayers that don't have jobs, we are in a serious recession and Barack will break our backs with his programs. Have you noticed that Corporate Taxes are down 57% and personal taxes are down about 27%? How will he pay for this, when there is no money? --Declared carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases a threat to public health and welfare, setting the stage for regulating greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming if Congress fails to pass legislation to address the issue. This is just a repeat of another greenie quote. Cap & Trade has not lowered CO2 levels in Europe and it has been in effect for years, what makes you think it will work for Barack? I guess we could get rid of all those farting cows. ![]() --Protected more than 2 million acres of wilderness land and several rivers with the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009. This one is okay, miracles never cease. --Re-established the United States as a leader in international climate negotiations. This one is just a joke and a repeat of another greenie quote. Barack has not re-established the US as a leader of anything IMO. --Restored critical protections under the Endangered Species Act, which had been removed by a last-minute rule change in the final days of the Bush administration. Not enough info, WHAT critical protections? --Ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider its decision to deny California a waiver under the Clean Air Act, which would have enabled California and 17 other states to impose stricter-than-federal limits on greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles. Oh yeah, that is what California needs, more regs to jump start that state's wonderful economy. --Reversed the Bush rule that opened the door to mountaintop removal coal mining and canceled several individual mountaintop mining permits. Translation = put more people out of work --Put offshore drilling and oil shale exploration on hold and restored protections for public lands. I won't even go here. --Announced a new initiative to lease U.S. coastal waters for the purpose of generating electricity from wind and ocean currents. The jury is still out on this one. --Repeatedly reaffirmed science and the rule of law as the standards by which federal environmental decisions shall be made. Barack's law? ![]() Taken from: http://environment.about.com/od/envi...t-100-days.htm |
