I know Ernie isn't a cat, but he was one of my many rescues. He was a rescue horse, very very old. We think he was somewhere between 35 and 40. He had no teeth so could only slurp his food. I went out to the pasture and he was gone. It doesn't look like he struggled, just went while eating. He is where he should be now, waiting for me and keeping all my other babies that have passed. I know that he felt that he needed to go so I could take in another rescue horse. I'm looking for one now. The pain is so strong as I just lost my 2 oldest dogs (18, and 15) within a week of each other 2 months ago. No one wants the old ones for that reason, but I'll always take them and make their last days on earth the best of their lives.

RIP
Ernie, Mitzi, Heidi, Chelsea,

That is amazing of you to have rescued a senior horse- I know how hard it is to place rescued horses, let alone the old ones. Your heart must be aching. At that age, it was definitely Ernie's time. At least his last moments in life were the best they could be. Passing away while eating- an extremely peaceful way to go for any animal
. I'm sure he was very thankful that you did take a chance on him and gave him a shot at a good life.

May you rest in peaceful, green, pre-chewed carrot pastures (so he can eat them easier
)
