I wish I could have an air conditioner in my apartment.

But my landlady is a you-know-what and wont allow us to put up any sort of support because we would have to drill into the window frame, and thus we cannot have an air conditioner. Heaven-forbid it fall out the window and hurt somebody.

I love your air conditioner that you bought!! I wish I could fit it into my budget. Poor us and Mr. Kitty suffered today in 105 degree weather, and like I am sure you know all about...The apartment is even hotter than outside.

I can't wait to move. Then my landlady can have fun renting this place out during the summer.

I honestly feel bad for you folks that are having such hot weather. I have only had my air conditioning on once this whole summer and that was back in early June.

Our weather has been cooler than normal but beautiful for me.

I love it when you guys say it is getting cooler because it means it will get warmer for us!

It is definitely starting to get warmer here though, its lovely! I don't have to wear my polyprops under my pants to keep warm!

We don't have hot weather here either. There were 2 or 3 "hot" days that were in the mid to high 20's (Celsius), but other than that it's been cool, cloudy and raining.

I have lived in my apartment without AC since 1996 and this year I decided to invest in one because over the past few years I've just not been able to tolerate the heat at all.

I ordered the AC back in May and it just arrived in the city last week, and thus I didn't have it for the few hot days that it would have warranted having an AC.

But... my AC is novel and I'm bound and determined to use it! So despite it being cool yesterday, I turned on the AC (my new toy) anyway!!

How do you keep Mr. Kitty cool in a heat wave when you're not home? Just wondered! (We have central air, so, if there's a heat advisory, or, if the temp is over 90F, I leave it on all day for the kitties while I'm at work. I'm so afraid they will come down with heat stroke or die.)

Linda, just after I said I wanted your air conditioner, guess what happened? Our window unit (we need it the the master bedroom, as the central AC doesn't work there) died later that day. We decided against the portable one, but did get a window unit with wonder of wonders, A REMOTE CONTROL!!! Oooh, it's marvelous! Now, I don't have to stumble over cats, shoes, hubby, the bedposts, etc. in the dark in the middle of the night, so I can turn the AC down!

Fancy that--someone in CANADA actually wants to be colder!!!

You know, I'd do the same thing in your situation. I'm happy for you--it must've been miserable without the AC all those years.

I'm just grooving on how much less my electric bill has been.
I can certainly afford it, but it's nice to have extra money to spend on something else.

We have a programmable thermostat that is set to a higher temperature during the day for AC and lower for heat, set to come up or down to normal temp just before we get home from work and then backs off again after midnight for while we sleep. We haven't even had the thermostat turned on at all since late may/early June. We just open all the windows up when we get home after work and the breeze is beautiful.

Ever been to Canada in the summertime? I'd have to guess by your comment that you haven't.

Air conditioning on too high is not healthy IMO. I remember being in Barbados one time and the AC in the restaurants and bars was cooler than outside but not cold in that you didn't feel like you were walking into a refrigerator. I thought that was much better for my body.

LOL....but don't come this summer...it may just snow here with the horrible weather we've been getting! (Really, it's been hovering around 20 degrees celsius - around 70 Ferenheit....which is not going to result in snow anytime soon, but is a far cry from the 30+humidity temperatures we usually get in the summertime)

I wouldn't mind the cooler weather at all, if not for the constant rain/clouds.

I'll take this weather over heat and humidity any day. I can't breathe when it's hot so this suits me just fine. I don't even mind the rain because I'm not a sun worshiper and stay out of the sun as much as possible. I'm hoping that August doesn't come in with all the hot, humid weather.

It is supposed to go to 35C today. Our normal is around 23C. I would love to get an air conditioner. Even just to use at night.

I just got my AC, so I haven't gotten an electric bill with its usage on it. But according to the website this machine uses the same power as a home coffee maker.
