I noticed a swelling under my 12 week old kitten's belly and took him to the vet. He has an inguinal hernia and one of his testicles is dropping through the tear. The vet is doing surgery on Thursday to neuter him and repair the tear. I'm really nervous about it as he only weighs 3 pounds. Has anyone else gone through this kind of thing? I could use some reassurance.

I'm currently fostering a female kitten whom my vet discovered had a hernia when she was rescued 4 weeks ago. Hers was umbilical instead of inguinal. Since her intestines were nearly protruding through her skin, the vet recommend surgery ASAP. She was slightly less than two lbs at the time, but my vet felt it would be safe to spay her at the same time. She came through the surgery just fine and was running around and playing within a few days.

Hope this offers some reassurance. I'll be sending lots of vibes for your little guy.

Thanks Eilcon, that makes me feel better. This little guy has stolen our hearts and I'm so worried about the surgery.

My Coco has a son that was born with a hernia.
He had the surgery and was fixed at the ame time.
Everything went well.
His name is Midnight and he will be 7 August 1rst.
He wa around the same age when he had the hernia.
The other kittens would try to suck on the hernia.
