So due to us having the new kitten we have an additional litter box upstairs in her safe room--the bathroom. In the last two weeks our older boys have decided that this is great and have been using it--which meowmy hates!

So I get home from work and I'm using the bathroom and Jack comes in and gets in the box (covered rubbermaid) and I look and see pee streaming out of the box onto the floor. One part of me wanted to yell stop stop!! The other part of me knew you don't yell at a cat for using a litter box--because you surely can't explain he was missing.

You see Jack is famous for stepping into the box and peeing right there--no turning, just one step in and pee. Well Peppers box is cut lower in the front because she is smaller and apparently someone also forgot squat.

Luckily I was there to see it and immediately soak it up with toilet paper and then clean it with enzymatic cleaner. Can't live with em can't live without em!

Maybe you can get a box with higher sides, like one of those long rubbermaid totes.

It does have high sides, it only has an entry hole cut in the side--but he insists on peeing right there. I think he just forgot to squat that time!

I have 2 just like that!

Chynna is an edger and likes to pee right at the side. Most of the time she gets it because she squats. But occasionally she misses and over shoots the box.

Abby on the other hand is my dyslexic kitty! She will pee anywhere in the box, so long as she has 3 legs up on the sides of the box. She would have all 4 on the side if it were possible, but she discovered that she needs to have one hind leg in the box in order to balance. Unfortunately in her quest to keep her paws clean and balance on the side of the box, she often forgets to turn around so she also pees over the edge.

What I've done is invest in some of litter mats. They are plastic with grooves that sit under or beside the box. The idea is to prevent tracking of litter. One is supposed to be enough. Unfortunately neither cat will exit the box to walk on them in order for them to be effective. So I've put 3 of them (they interlock with each other) under the litter box. This way when they pee over the side, they are peeing on the plastic, not on the floor. I wash the mats every few days.

Mungo Jerry is an extremely large and long cat, and no matter what type of box I have as soon as his front paws are in he poops. He showed up front declawed, maybe his old owners used a harsher litter that bothered him to walk on? If I don't find a pile in front of or on the side of the box in the morning I watch him to make sure the old guy isn't constipated!

I solved all my problems a couple of weeks ago with the purchase of a Booda Dome. Both my cats use and have no mishaps. And now that I have had it for a while, it is growing on me, it looks kinda funky.

Glad to hear he isn't the only edger. It drives me nuts that he pees right on top of pee because the litter has a hard time clumping. He hasn't had any issues since. I did get some natures miracles for the floor as what I had didnt' seem to be working and I don't want anyone else getting ideas.
