Just wondering what the best way is to clean an old litter box. I bought a nice covered one at a garage sale, but the seller didn't know how long ago it was used or the health of the previous "owner". I don't want my babies getting sick. How can I make sure it's sterile? Is soap and water enough?

If you have a large plastic trash can, I would fill it with bleach and hot water and let the pan soak in the mixture for at least 15 minutes, then rinse it with hot water and air dry it. That will kill anything left on it- though it is doubtful there is anything there. But for peace of mind, that is what I would do.

Also a helpful hint, before you pour litter in the pan, spray the pan inside with PAM cooking spray, then dump the litter in. No more dirty litter to stick to the pan.

Start with an hour soak in vinager to disolve any calicification on the bottom, then soak in HOT water with 1 cup of bleach. I would do this in the bath tub to gat maximum coverage. Rince with hot water and air dey in the sun.
