About two years ago I started looking for new dining room furniture, even had one wall moved so my dining room would be big enough to hold everything. Then when I found something I liked I discovered it was going to cost $6,000+!
At that point I decided I would try to get on piece at a time from craigslist or eBay. I had gotten a sideboard about a year and a half ago, but never found any matching pieces in my price range.

In May I went to an estate sale (one of the women in my church had left her entire estate to the church) just to see what was there. I fell in love with the china hutch and somebody else wanted the table and chairs. Unfortunately, the executor didn't want to break up the set. Long story short, I got talked into buying the full set: table & chairs, china hutch, buffet, and serving table. I didn't have the money in my checking account at the time so had to make several payments. The final payment went in this week, and I got my new (antique) dining room yesterday.

The sideboard behind the table at the left of the picture is the one I got earlier. The serving table is hidden under the boards at the lower right corner. I'll have to take more pictures once I get the shelves back in the hutch and buffet. I also have to figure out a place to store the extra leaves for the table since I don't need to have it fully extended most of the time.

I can't wait to get some of my pretty glass things in the hutch behind the glass doors. I had to pack everything away when I got cats that like to climb and knock breakable stuff off the shelves.

Over the river and through the woods...
Gorgeous set! I love older furniture. Do you have any idea of the time period? I'm still kicking myself for selling my mom's dining room set but her's was HUGE (8 seats, 2 leaves plus the buffet and china closet) and there is no way it would fit in my dinning room anyway.

For the extra leaves, my mom always just stored them on end behind the china closet. Easy to get to when needed, but out of sight most of the time.

Thanks, everybody. I'm just enjoying looking at it right now. I'm going to have to invite all the people who talked me into buying it over for lunch one of these days.

I looked the company up on google and found out they started making furniture in 1946. I had thought it might be older than that knowing the history of the woman who owned it. I'm thinking she, or her mother, probably bought the set new in the 40's.

I have the hutch right up against the wall so there isn't room to put the table leaves behind it. However, there is a low shelf under the serving table that works just fine.

Here's a couple more pictures. I got a few things put in the china hutch, but they don't really show up well against the dark wood. I'll probably end up putting some of my good china there because it's mainly white with a blue and gold border.
