You know, you're right. We had it at one point.... and I don't remember why we didn't continue with it.
I probably ought to order it again. It's a powder, right? I think I couldn't figure out how to get it down him............ ????????

But yes, it was not a "bad" number. It was just so disappointing. What's scary is that he has been so bouncy - he doesn't walk anywhere, he runs and zips around here - and he's still looking "so" pink.

We were disappointed in ourselves that we couldn't tell it had gotten as low as it did - and scared by that too.

It didn't help that Doc said "this is a totally survivable number for him!"
Of course that's good news.... it's just the way it sounded.

At least you caught it before the hemocrit got to dangerous levels again. If only all pet owners were as observant of behavioral changes as you are!

Many that the depo works its magic for another year and Tuxie maintains his health.

Yes, it is a capsule, and I open it and mix into Bugsy's food. For what I can read, vets recommend the Transfer Factor Classic for immune diseases, as an immune modulator.
With the other vitamins, it has done wonders for Bugsy... Now that he has been healthy for a while I am giving him the TF Feline formula; he LOVES the taste.
Before I was giving him TF - 1 capsule/day.
Good Luck!

You can't beat yourself up over not knowing - first, you know how cats are about hiding how sick they feel. Second, I can tell you from experience that your hematocrit can be low, and you still feel perfectly fine. His values aren't low enough to be dangerous yet, and its great that you caught it soon so that you can get him treatment before things really start to be worrisome again.

You're a great meowmy, so don't doubt that. More for Tuxedo!

Just caught this thread. Sending major vibes to Tuxie that the depo will put him in remission again. You are not at fault Laurie. How many times have you told people that cats hide their illnesses very well? And the larger the household, the more they keep it to themselves.

I am adding my too that the depo gets things turned around quickly. This time you know exactly what to do, so you are way ahead of the game.

I have to say I was thinking you did awesome at catching this right away. You noticed Tuxie was eating the litter which is his only early warning indicator that he is getting anemic. That is a hard sign to catch!

Thank you all so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's not running around here like a maniac - and that usually happens the day or two after a depo shot. He's still bouncing around like Tigger though, and still looks very pink, so we're - so far at least - on target to take him back on the 14th.

Well, we took him in two days early because of scheduling issues on our end.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tuxie's hematocrit was 40!

This is the highest red blood cell count he's ever had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No word on when to bring him in again - just the "keep an eye on him."

WTG Tuxie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
