My Ferris was born feral, and I adopted him at about 12 weeks old after he'd been caught and fostered for a month, kept in a cage during fostering.

He's a very special boy, prone to panic attacks and reverting to feral behavior when he hears or smells strangers. He trusts only 4 people in this world: me, my daughter, my former roomie, and a very good friend of mine named Liz.

If I have company, no one ever knows that I have Ferris because he spends the entire time under my bed. I have had friends spend up to three nights here, and Ferris is not seen by anyone but me, in my bedroom, late at night during those rare visits.

My friend Liz has just moved cross-country to share living expenses with me here in NC. Ferris (or me, for that matter!) hadn't seen her in almost a full year.

She'd been in the house here about 24 hours when Ferris started coming out to investigate: he'd remembered her smell, the sound of her voice, and to help things along a bit, I gave her his favorite wand toy that tweets to jiggle around a bit for him to hear and associate with her: playing with that wand toy with him when he was still a kitten was how he'd bonded with her to begin with.

Tonight, 48 hours since her arrival, he is walking in and out of her room, giving her blink kisses and allowing her to give him scritches - and he even gave her hand a couple of licks.

For those that think that cats have short memories, I say BUNK! Cats have memories like elephants, IMO. I thought so when I used to visit my mom's old orange boy, Tigger,
and Ferris has given me proof positive.

They remember, alright.
Don't let anyone ever tell you differently.

Ferris has been and always will be a special favourite of mine. Glad to hear he's enjoying your friend Liz as well.
