My precious Socrates is only 6 years old and he is at the hospital right now awaiting surgery. I am recently unemployed (last week) and he needs surgery asap for an obstruction in the intestines. I am begging you, if you can, please donate $5 or $10 to help toward the costs of his surgery. I am looking at about $1000 and I literally have $130 to my name and no credit cards. I don't know what to do. He is our baby and I would never ask for money from people I don't know, but I am desperate.. My son is devastated as this is his only companion and he is autistic.

My email address is If you contact me, I will give you the name and number to the vet directly so you can verify on google and call them and give a donation to save my baby's life.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart...

I am sorry for your cat, and hope you are able to find the means to get him the surgery.

I would start selling my belongings if it came down to not having the money for a beloved family member or finding some way to borrow money off of a family member, etc.

Good luck and for your kitty.

I removed your e-mail address as we do not allow that here at TCS. Members may PM you if they wish to get your information.

I'm sorry to hear the bad news and hope you are able to find a way to pay for the necessary medical needs of your kitty. It is part of our policy and one of our rules so I am posting the following:

5. Solicitations – TheCatSite.com does not encourage or promote solicitation of money from our members. We will help in every way possible with our knowledge and support, but as many of us have multi-cat households and work with local rescue groups, monetary support is not always possible to causes or people we do not personally know. Members are allowed one posting in the SOS forum for each organization. Repeated postings for the same cause or organization will be deleted.

The needs of rescue workers are great and we recognize this fact. To care for multiple cats, find suitable homes, good vet care, food, etc. is costly. From time to time you will see some posts come up to ask for donations for a cause. It is YOUR responsibility to check out these solicitors to the best of your ability. More often, you will see pleas from individuals asking for money to be sent directly to them to assist with veterinary bills. Some come up with slick websites, others just have heartwrenching stories. In each of these cases, the poster is allowed ONE thread, to be placed in Cats SOS.

In either case, if you feel compelled to donate money ask for references, phone numbers, call around the area and find out if this is a legitimate cause or a scam. For personal pleas, get the veterinarianâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s contact information and send money directly to the veterinarian to help with bills for that particular cat. If that information is not available, you have the answer if the plea is legitimate or a scam.

Be very careful before you send any money: no matter how effective the plea is, check it out first before opening your wallet.

You didn't.
We always post a disclaimer for every thread of this kind. Unfortunately in today's economy, these are becoming much more frequent.

Good luck with your Socrates.

I just wanted to say thank you for your advice and warm wishes.. I specifically want to thank Elicon who PMed me with some info on charities. Between a few donations and IMOM.org, I was able to get our baby the life saving surgery that he needed.. He is doing much better now.. Not completely out of the dark, but we are hoping some meds and love will get the inflammed intestines back to normal..

Thank you Elicon.. By sending me that message, I was able to save Socrates life. I am eternally grateful to you...

I've had one go through that surgery, and you're right, it is extremely expensive. A family member helped me out.

I'm glad the kitty got the surgery; here are some healing vibes!

Just as a curiosity, what caused the obstruction? What were the symptoms?

Many times, hearing about what has happened to other cats can help us watch for problems with our own.

My Elsa had to have that surgery. While she was recovering, i fed her a very soft diet - about a table spoon of food every 2 hours. It helped her recover quite quickly, although I got a bit run down with no sleep.
Let me know if you want any more details on what I fed her.

They will approve you for credit with no interest until paid off for vet bills, medical bills too.. This should help you!
We applied online for our medical bills and you find out if approved quickly! go there asap if you need the surgery! Or talk to your vet, tell them your situation, they may set up a payment plan?
